musicman
The Houston school district bucked a statewide trend, cutting its number of poorly performing campuses almost in half while tougher standards caused hundreds of Texas public schools to earn lower ratings this year. The Texas Education Agency also announced on Wednesday that a record number of schools statewide had achieved the top grade, although many students struggled in math and science. The state required more students to pass annual standardized tests in 2007, leading to a slight increase in the number of campuses rated as academically unacceptable. Most received "acceptable" ratings. The number of top-rated, or exemplary, campuses grew from 564 to 637, while those deemed unacceptable increased slightly, from 286 to 301.The Houston Independent School District reduced its number of unacceptable campuses from 33 to 17. It also outperformed the Dallas ISD, the state's next-largest urban district.Houston, however, is home to the only school in Texas to net the lowest rating for a fifth consecutive year.hisd school ratingsfull articleI'm sure the results will stir up the Lamar/Bellaire boosters.
