YOu know they Katy Freeway is still going up. It's going to stretch from Loop 610 to Brookshire. Some will have just been widened but some are gonna host HOTlanes. These tolled lanes allow to skip or bypass large parts of traffic.

There is however s slight problem, you have to have an EZtag. We are right now part of TXtag which allow Houston and Dallas TXtag users to ride eachother's highways. But what about those out of state? If someone from out of state wanted to use it could they? I thinking mainly truckers. They would get a prime use out of it. If not, could they use the HOV part? Afterall their vehicle is largely occupied.

Despite the colorful presentation, I actually understand Plastic's concern. It would seem beneficial to area congestion, considering how many out-of-staters use the Katy Freeway to get from one side of the country to the other, to allow for these people to take advantage of some form of EZ Tag. I wouldn't be surprised if such a thing was being worked out as we speak.

Does anyone have any professional (or pseudo-professional) estimates of how many out-of-towners use the Katy Freeway (or I-10 in general) to go through Houston to other destinations?

If you count all the 18-wheelers that truck across the state, it is enough to matter.
