There was an Okay car dealership on the Gulf Freeway (maybe across from Gulfgate?) forever! But no more. A boy I knew asked me out on a date in about 1967. He picked me up and drove me to Okay Cars, saying that he hadn't budgeted well enough for a movie or a burger, so he just took me to stare at the cars. He had a great time! I didn't, much. I married somebody else. Twenty-five years later we went to Bonnie's Beef and Seafood on the Gulf Freeway and I looked over and saw the little "Okay" flags flapping. It still looked the same. But it's not there any more.
I think you're referring to the old Bob Robertson Chevrolet which was located at the outbound side of the Gulf Freeway @ Wayside.

Sam White Oldsmobile
Tom Gray Datsun/Nissan on the Katy Freeway and "West Belt"
Don't forget Sam Montgomery "The Rocket Man" Oldsmobile on Kirby Drive!

Capt. something that was a Seafood joint that the building was a boat they had one on 1960 and on I-10. They served cajun seafood as well as fried fish and raw oysters.
Cap't. Benny's? Seems like I remember one being on I-10 just west of the West Loop. There was also one near the Medical Center & on the Southwest Freeway at Stafford. Are any of them still around?

I'm old I admit it but I really thought it was the Winchester at Chimney Rock & Westheimer
The Winchester Club was on the north side of Bissonnet between Chimney Rock & Hillcroft- I forget the name of the cross street closest to it. Back when I was a young Bellaire cop working day shift in the late '70's we had a "departmental meeting" there every Friday night. ;-)

Was there an A&P on South Post Oak near Bellfort? There is a brick building there that always reminded me of an A&P.
I believe you are correct.

That had to be 1963 or 1964 because this was the steel bodied Dart.
I believe that car has a '66 grille on it.

Do y'all remember Fool's Gold at Chimney Rock & Westheimer? How about Moe & Joe's up north (1960 area, IIRC)?

Casa Dominguez? It used to be in that area before relocating to Bellaire about 20 years ago.
That sounds about right. Are they still in business?

Wow! This thread brought back a ton of memories!
Some of the restaurants already mentioned that I loved:
Zorba the Greek's on Tuam
Valian's
Bellaire Broiler Burger (still eat there when I'm in town)
Kip's on Bellaire (used to have breakfast there when working day shift)
Yamin's on Buffalo Speedway
Der Weinerschnitzel on Westheimer near Montrose
Alfred's on Stella Link
Others that I haven't seen mentioned:
A&W Root Beer stand on Bellaire just east of Hillcroft
Pancho's Mexican Buffet (kept a poor UH student from starving- all you could stand for $1.99!)
There was a Greek place out on Bissonnet near Shipley's- IIRC it was called the Athena (or something like that).
Also, places that I've forgotten the names of:
Pizza place next to a flower shop on the NE side of the Park Place- Broadway- Gulf Fwy. traffic circle
Mexican place on Kirby north of Richmond- it was FULL of UT stuff!
Someone asked about Bert Wheeler's- isn't the one by Broiler Burger on Bellaire still there? Haven't been by there recently.

There was a mention of Hedgecroft Hospital in today's Chronicle in an article regarding the polio epidemic in the early 1950s- Google "Hedgecroft Hospital Houston" and you'll find links with pictures of the original mansion and the entrance, and one of the expansion in 1952.
