1. Wow, no offense meant to Editor, but is HAIF dying? An announcement that a big project like this is breaking ground in an area like the galleria and nobody is talking about it? What is going on? A few years ago this topic would have already been on it's second or third page.

I think that one of the problems is that there are three seperate topics out there that, from what I can tell, are all bout the same project. BBVA, The Perennial, and 2200 Post Oak. Put them together and you probably have 3 pages worth.

  2. if you're talking office tenant i can think of at least one major company that is looking in the area but don't have any real specifics as to where they'll end up, although i'm fairly certain they've had a site selected for at least a few months. are you perhaps thinking of redstones proposed 2nd houstonian office building? i heard very recently that they do have a lead tenant and that it is a go.

I am not sure of any of the details. I just heard that an office project at this address was in the works with funding and a teneant in place. The people that I talked to were being all 007 about it.

  3. I haven't heard anything like that at all. I got the Klein newsletter in the mail this weekend and there were 2 pages of information about budget cuts and nothing was mentioned about selling any land. They saw this coming and have been preparing for it for quite some time. Also, I can tell you that there is nothing on the land itself that indicates that it is up for sale.

  4. Im 100 percent sure you are right DrLan34, the Settegast Estate building is the exact shape, size and dimensions as showed on the rendering. That would be awesome for them to be able to preserve part of history and give it a nice face lift smile.gif

On the construction drawings this building is called the Settegast Building. I have to say that it is not much of a fine arts space. The theater is tiny compared to what most high schools have.

  5. I walked the job on 01/12/10 and I can tell you that there is still some work to be done. The GC is telling the owners that they are going to turn over the building on 10/25/10 but I can tell you that that is not going to happen. Even the owner had a little chuckle at that. It is coming along and they are realistically going to have a soft opening perhaps the first or second week of February and a grand reopening in time for Valentines Day. The issue is not that they need to put 1000 workers on the job. The issue is that they are crawling all over the place like ants on a blob of jelly. The painters can't paint till the millwork is done, the electrician can't trim out till the paint is done, the carpet cant be layed until the electricians are off their ladders, ect. ect. There are so many workers in there that they are tripping over each other. They lost a huge amount of time trying to save the facade

I can also tell you that aproximately 60% of the staff is returning which is quite amazing when you think about the fact that it has been closed for so long. They layout is similar so it should seem familiar but updated. I for one can't wait to see it finished.

  6. Does anyone have any current information on the proposed Veterans Museum? I had heard about this project quite a couple of years ago and someone brought it to my attention again. It was supposed to be a $143,000,000 museum at 45 and Scarsdale dedicated to veterans of all wars. They have a web site ( www.theveteransmuseumintexas.org ) but none of the info is all that new. I believe the architect was Proem. The scetches on the web look like it will be a star shape with some interesting angles on the outside. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone has heard anything about the fate of this project?

  7. Aren't most of the blue lights actually energy saving LED lights?

Probably. Most of the LED Xmas lights I have seen on the market are that bluish color. White LEDs are actually the most expensive LED's to produce. I am all about energy efficiency (selling energy effiecient products is my livelihood), but I sure do like the good old fashioned incandecent bulb when it comes to Xmas lights. It just looks right to me.

  8.
#1 may be prep demo work for the City of Houston's new permit office. There is a thread here somewhere about it. Don't know if that is the building that you are describing, though.
I believe that this is correct. The address for the new permit office is 1002 Washington Ave. There are DD drawings on this project and I would expect that construction would start soon.
