  1. had dinner with my kids on friday night. really enjoyed it. love the atmosphere. can see becoming regulars :)

Our breakfast was really delicious and very well priced, "Dad's Plate", which consists two eggs, breakfast meat, potato/grit, and toast, for $5. That same meal is $8 at Dry Creek and I think $11 or so at Lola.

One highchair in the entire place is a problem, personally speaking, but the food was really good. I also snuck in a "cake ball", delicious.

  2. I get the appeal of Someburger, I guess, but quite frankly their burgers aren't all that. I think people rally around it because of what it is or represents to them, not how good their food is. If I'm craving a burger, it ain't on the list.

I enjoyed my burger at Southwells last week and agree with Heights Yankee about the tree and area outside, really like that. They only had two highchairs when we went, so I hope they fix that. There were four families there that needed highchairs. Other than that, glad it's there!

  3. Second location- Can't wait to be there!! Hope to be open mid November if I am able to tip toe through the city's requirements. This is a great location for me! I will have lots of parking and a bike rack to encourage working off that piece of pie that you might have to eat! Trying to keep the menu reasonably priced . A place to sit long, talk much and laugh often!! Outdoor space to come!! Stay tuned---biggrin.gif

Good Luck! Wish you the best and look forward to checking it out!

  4. **We also tip extra, clean up when appropriate, and try our best to reign in our gremlin when eating out. He has to learn, but not at the expense of the poor waitstaff. Normally, he is pretty good but there are times.

I think that makes a very big difference. We always try to do the same.

  5. I don't know what the stats will look like in the next census. To be honest, I've never bothered to look at or read a census. I read that article about the number of children being born breaking a 50 year old record and thought it was interesting (the article also did say that the actual birth rate was low and will likely never surpass what was seen during the baby boom). While I'm sure that I haven't lived in this neighborhood as long as you have, I have lived here long enough (8 years) to see what appears to be a significant increase in the number of people pushing strollers around. That's all. Also, while we do not utilize day care, we have a number of friends who have had a hard time finding a day care in The Heights that doesn't have a 9 month wait list. I think all of this is simply because there are more kids in the neighborhood.

For the record, I am in no way suggesting that people with kids are better for restaurant business. I just like it when a new place opens that we can take our daughter to.

  6. This seems to be a contradiction.

The demographics seem to contradict as well. Nearly 75%of the households in ZIP code 77008 have no children.

    77008 demographics

I'm not sure how up to date the demographics are on the link you posted, but I do know that in 2007, the number of children born in the United States set a record. It was the most children born in one year since 1957 (the height of the baby boom). So, I imagine that when the updated numbers come out, you will see an increase in the number of households that have children that live in The Heights. However, I don't think you need numbers to tell you that. Just look around.

Heck on our block alone (Norhill Heights), we have a child, our neighbors have three, and the folks two houses down just found out they are having triplets!

As far as variety on a kids menu, I don't think restaurants need to get exotic. Our toddler pretty much eats eggs in the am and, if we take her out to eat, will happily eat grilled cheese or chicken strips, so they've got us covered.

  7. I ate there yesterday for lunch. They just had a few of their items available. The entire menu looks delicious! Very cool, clean atmosphere with great windows. I felt like the prices were reasonable. Breakfast seemed like it would be a little pricey, but their lunch menu (I had a steak sandwich, fries, and a drink and it ran me $13) and dinner selections looked to be reasonable ($11-$15). My sandwich was great and the fries were good (a little too salty for me). Can't wait to go back.

  8. Sorry Poonks. Unlike Texadelphia, MyFitFoods is to help you lose weight. :)

Yeah, I get that, my displeasure with them closing had nothing to do with their menu selection. I liked their food, (they have plenty of healthy choices on their menu) but that's not why I went. It was a very family friendly sports bar. I'll miss having it so close, it was a great place to watch a game without having a ton of drunks cussing and yelling, that just wasn't the atmosphere there (at least not that I experienced). Regardless, it's gone. Good luck to myfitfoods. Look forward to checking it out.

  9. Poonks, it is going to be the newest MyFitFoods location and the first one with instore seating so one may dine in.

Sigh....... not to disparage MyFitFoods (I've never been to one, but I'm sure I'll check it out), was hoping for a replacement of sorts of The Delph.

  10. It looks like they are working on the location where Texadelphia used to be. I drove by there to day and the "for lease" sign was gone and there was some type of permit sign hanging in the window. I didn't get out to see what it was due to the rain.

I also had lunch the other day at the 'delph on Westheimer. I wanted to find out a little more info about Memorial closing. A person who works there told me that no one that worked at the Memorial location had any indication that they were closing. The owner had a few of the employees from the other locations show up at 10:45 pm the day before they closed and work till 6 am moving everything they could out of the restaurant. He said the owner is planning to open up a sports bar somewhere else, I think he said near Sienna Plantation, and that he was trying to consolidate his assets. The worker said that the Memorial store was doing well and was actually out selling the location on Westheimer during the summer.

I sat at the bar while I was having lunch and the phone rang three or four differently times. Each time I heard the bartender say "no, sorry, the memorial location has closed". It has been a very unpopular closing. I think they feel that the crowd from memorial will drive to their Westheimer location. While I did do that a couple of days ago, I don't see it happening often. Seems like I was at the memorial location at least once a week, maybe more during football season. I will miss going there.

We live in the heights, anyone have any good recommendations for a "family friendly" sports bar?
