Indeed, Union was a great place to go for parts. I wish I could go back knowing now what I didn't know then.

I would love to hear stories and see any pictures of motorcycle dealers (new, used, parts / junkyards) of any motorcycle dealers in the Houston metro area. I was six in 1971 when my dad bought my brother and I a used Honda Mini-Trail 50, and I still have it. By about 1974, I was a motorcycle huge enthusiast, and I still am. I would beg my dad to take me to the motorcycle shops so I could browse, window shop and drool. By the time I was driving, I was racing motocross, and went to a lot of the dealerships, so I have fond memories of many of the dealers of the time. I still race and I am still friends with many of my racing buddies from those days.

If you name a motorcycle dealer that existed in the 1970s and into the 1980s (and beyond), I was likely a customer. However, because I grew up on the southeast side near Edgebrook and I-45, shops in that areas were the ones I spent the most time at.

This is a partial list of dealers I frequented...or visited at least once.

I didn't live close enough to Parkview to make frequent stops there; I was closer to Almeda Mall, so I went to those theaters. However, I did see two movies there in 1981 - Clash of the Titans and Take This Job and Shove It. One of those movies was released in April and the other in June of that year. I don't recall going to the theater more than once, so I probably saw both of these flicks on the same day. Not sure about that. I would have been about 15 years old at the time.

These days I still frequent that area. I have some friends that work on Spencer Hwy, and I used to work in Deer Park in the late 80s and early 90s. I hated to see the theater go away.

I lived near Hobby Airport when I was growing up in the early to mid 1970s. Lots of trips all over Houston when I was young, and very nostalgic parents, means I remember much of the landscape of the area.

I do, however, have a memory that I can't seem to confirm. In the Airport Blvd / College Avenue / Hobby Airport area, there was a welding supply place named IWECO. It still exists today. I seem to recall IWECO had an animated sign in the early to mid 1970s that had a cartoonish welder who lit up his cutting torch. I recall it being visible from I-45 in the south direction. Anyone recall this? This sign is not to be confused with the very memorable Markle Steel sign that was closer to downtown and has been discussed here several times.
