Ok all you history buffs, name these pretty girls in Hallie Pritchards 1930's dance class! Story Jones sloane III

Hmmm....well lets see, I was not thought of in the 30's however, I know Miss Angela and Miss Alice were students at one time. I give, who are they?

Also, I am not sure how to answer a message on this page. Lanette, I received your message. Yes, Chandra was mascot the year I was Scholarship Winner.

  2. EXCELLENT thread!

In the mid 1980s when I was a kid I saw the abondonded remains of 2 of those drive in's on that map. The one at the HWY 225 and Red Bluff intersection had the screen still standing until sometime in the late 80s. I used to see it all of the time when we went to Pasadena.

The one off of S. Main still had some of the concession stand structure and the poles that held the speakers there back in the 80s as well. I wish I photos.

Anyone know when the power plant near S. Post Oak and S. Main was demolished and removed?

If you look in google maps the exact space of the power plant is still there. Nothing has been built on the site; an empty pad exists. Was there contamination in the soil?

A new residential area is built to the south and to the NE there is Houston sports complex.

I've seen it in a photo of Westbury taken from the air in 1960. Sam Houston airport was still alive back in 55....wow....Westbury South sits right on top of it these days.

I grew up in Pasadena and remember the Red Bluff Drive In. I went there many times with my parents, then after I got to be a teenager, it went to XXX Movies. That was kinda funny because they figured out really fast that they had to build a really big fence around it so people traveling down Red Bluff toward Hwy 225 wouldn't have an accident watching the screen.

They had a drive in on Shaver/Almeda Genoa...I think it was called Gulfway or something like that.

  3. I took my Mom to Hancock's the other day. I couldn't see any sign of it ever being a theatre. I was there a lot in the early 70's. I remember "Born Free" and "Romeo & Juliet". I remember Kips Big Boy being there. My how things change. Whew...I am getting old.

I also remember Wyatts...we were regulars there.

  4. I took dancing from Miss Hallie from about 1964 thru 1975. I remember that house well. By looking at the pictures, a lot was done after I left. They must have re-done the inside. The porch looks the same. I remember many times practicing on the porch when all the rooms were busy. Miss Hallie had a phone in the dance room that was probably almost as old as the house. It had no rotary dial on it, you couldn't dial out, but you could answer it. Apparently they tore down the big dance room in the back.

I remember Earl (pianist) very well and also a lady, gosh I can't remember her name, sweet lady, she was kin to the Quaids, an aunt I think. I remember many recitals and scholarship review at the coluseum and JonesHall. Oh and for all the other students out there, who could forget the Bazarr at PetroTex every year. The person talking about Chandra Wilson taking there, yes she was mascot one year um 1975 I think

Now that I have found this sight I will have to check back through my pictures for pictures of the house. Surely has brought back some really special memories.

  5. Wow...I just found this site. I took dancing at Hallie Pritchard's for many years. Until 1976. I remember 3 or 4 times of being on Don Mahoney & Jeanna Claire. y'all have brought back lots of memories. My mom is struggling with cancer and I am staying with her. Reading all of this has really taken me back. Thanks for the memories they are great ones. I too would be most interested in dvd's of those shows. If anyone can tell me how to get those. Also, any tapes or dvd's from dance recitals would be great. Wonderful mother's day gift.
