  1. El Rey, definitely. We eat there at least 1x per week. So affordable, varied menu, fresh food. Yum. The ceviche is great!

    Onion Creek

    Star Pizza

El Tiempo (not sure if it's still in The Heights but we like it)

Stella Sola (excited to try brunch. I've been to meet girl friends for wine and apps.)

    Beaver's

    Lola's

Haven't been yet but looking forward to:

    King Biscuit

    Jenni's

    JusMac

    Pie in the SKy

    Shade

  2. We drove by earlier today around 1pm. The streets were still closed off but there was not much going on from what we saw. It was raining pretty good though.

We had been looking for the Center Square building (seen from the freeway and were curious why it's still there) and just happened upon the street closure/Savoy demo.

  3. My USPS service in the 009 zip code is excellent. The regular carrier is very friendly and seems to know who on his route is on vacation, etc. I've had him come knocking on my door to deliver a package that needs to be signed for later in the day from when he first came by.

Wow. I wish I could say the same. When I called about it they got a little snippy with me. I was perfectly nice about it, I just wanted my electricity bill. It's been mostly better since I called but for a few weeks, I got my neighbor's mail and not mine. I'm still not sure what happened to my mail!

  4. My apologies, I'm really new to Houston and am just getting to know my way around and exploring a bit.

Yes- the old drug store and the other storefronts and not the orphanage is what I was inquiring about! Although, the orphanage information is also really interesting and I plan on reading up on that as well. Thank you for the leads.

  5. Part of my drive home is along here and it's a little out of my way but I love this area and I've been wondering about those old storefront buildings at this intersection. Kaboom Books moved here and it appears there may be a residence in the one with all of the windows, but what is the story with that area? Does anyone have any old photos or info? I just moved to the area and love the historic touches, having grown up in another city's historic district.
