Does anybody remember that gigantic white Greek revival house with the doric columns on Fannin Street, I want to say near McGowen (now "mid town")? It was across the street from the MHMRA building. For years it was a cleaners, then it was demolished...in the late '90s I think. In the same block was an old one-story brick building that was occasionally used as a haunted house...It's been an empty lot ever since.

I remember Marvin Bailey. Nice guy.
The Bailey's shop on Yale was simply a feast for the Houston history buff. I spent many pleasant hours there. Bought a few prints, but they were very expensive.

I remember the Prince's on Cullen and Main very well. The one on Cullen closed around '90. Like Vertigo58, I still have one of the menus hanging up in my kitchen.
The one on Main held on a little longer but it seems like it was history by '95 or so. Now it's a stopping point for the Rail.
I took a photo of the great sign on the Cullen location (a giant hamburger). I need to dig that out.

Anybody else ever frequent that old grocery store that was one block south of the old court house....maybe Fannin @ Capitol? For many years it was the *only* grocery store downtown. I went there quite a few times (this was '80s-mid-'90s), but now I can't remember the name. The building is still there but it's no longer a grocery.

Lust, gluttony, greed and the rest of the seven deadly sins gathered in the 6th century will have to get used to a modern companion. A Vatican official has articulated seven new categories of sin "due to the phenomenon of globalization."
1. "Bioethical" violations such as birth control
2. "Morally dubious" experiments such as stem cell research
3. Drug abuse
4. Polluting the environment
5. Contributing to widening divide between rich and poor
6. Excessive wealth
7. Creating poverty
8. Giving credence to anything the Pope says about anything.

10. DOS AMIGOS (5720) My personal favorite, Mrs. Cantu is always super friendly, and the nachos are the best.
Been there for at least 20 years now.
Best salsa in town, also.
I just wish they had beer on the menu.

222 West Dallas. It's a parking lot now (what else is new?). It would have been on the left as you drive down West Dallas heading into downtown, just after you cross over I-45.
