  1. There seems to have been an surge in crime lately in the Houston area. Theif, kidnapping, violent crime and murder seem to me to be in the news lately. What do yall think has be going in and how can the police, and political leaders combat this problem? Also, the violent crimes and murder are not just taking place in the inner city but more and more out to our suburbs. We know about the economy and that plays a role in it but I think there is more to it than that, what do you think?
Well in my neighborhood (Dairy Ashford at Memorial) we have constables and cops driving around constantly

  4. Yea, that's where I meant... it's not my normal side of town so I forget Highway 3 is a long road.

Luckilly I was on the freeway the whole time all the way till 517, which didn't get anywhere near as much rain as it did just a few miles north. Glad I headed down there earlier than I originally planned and that I lucked out on not hitting floodwater. If I had my new G6 would be floating away and I would be out cursing, punching people...Probably making the nightly news.

Construction at Nasa and 45 didn't help anyone either.... in fact seems like every new road they build, it just gets flooded even worse than before.

I got stuck in HEB for 30 mins waiting for the sideways rain to quit

  5. I've driven through Edcouch several times while bird hunting. This place, birth place and hometown of John Hill, is so out of the way, you wonder how he was able to advance and become so prominent with such humble beginnings.
I know, just like Jerry Lee Lewis,Mickey Gilley and J immy Swaggart coming outta a one horse town like Ferriday ,La......http://deesongs.homestead.com/files/standbyjimmyjerrymickey.jpg
  6. Richard Minns was a real piece of work. Very rich, very good looking, athletic -- his biggest claim to athletic fame was water-skiing completely around the perimeter of Lake Tahoe three times in a row. He made his fortune by founding the Presidents-First Lady Health Spa chain and it was big. He had them just about everywhere.

I met him in 1973 at the grand opening of his club in Fort Worth, and I remember him as your typical good looking smiling smooth talker who could charm the cash out of your wallet and your lady-friend into his bedroom.

The feds thought they had him when he was arrested on passport violations while passing through Texas back in the 90s, but his lawyer cut a deal that allowed him to plead guilty, pay a fine, and go on his way. They had nothing else to hold him for. He immediately left the country for Ireland, where, I think, he still lives today.

Check this out. It's a bit long, but it tells most of the story of Minns and Barbara Piotrowski. http://www.spring.net/yapp-bin/public/read/tv/69

  7. I think I went to every rock concert that came through Houston in the mid 60's thru late 70's except for the Beatles, Hendrix and the Stones.

The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Rascals, Cream, Lead Zepplin, a great performance of Jesus Christ Superstar and brain freeze many more. Loudan Wainwright had a new guy as the opening band name Bruce Springsteen.

Most were held at the Coliseum and a few more intimate (Moody Blues, James Taylor) were held at the Theatre in the Round. Billy Joel (didn't say HARD rock) was at the Music Hall.

I saw the Eagles twice and I think the second time was held at what became the Compac center? It was new & shiny and remember waiting in the long bathroom line when they played Hotel California.

Seperate place! I saw Pink Floyd at the L.A. Coliseum and when they played "Learning to Fly" they had waited for a plane to descend over the coliseum on it way to land at lax. They bounced hot pink lazer beams off the belly of the plane. It was awsome.

Anyone else out there remember any of the concerts?

I wonder what Joel Osteen did with the autograph wall that every band signed at The Summit?

  8. Thought it'd be fun to come up with a list of places where a significant structure or business was demolished, and now it's just a vacant lot -- development didn't work out for some reason.

    Astroworld

    Carousel House

    1Waverly (Glassman Shoemake Maldonado house)

    State Grille/Confederate House/Black Angus

    Any more?

http://thestategrille.com/page/o4qj/Take_A...CircleView.html the State Grill always smelled like raw sewage when stopped at the light on that corner
