My dad's boss used to have a beach house in Pirate's Cove. We went down in June to see if we could find it. We couldn't even find the street it was on - three rows of homes and a street have gone. All the dunes have gone. Trees are all dead and creepy.

It was quite disconcerning.

I went to Galveston a couple weeks back. Work is continuing inside most of the buildings on the Strand. The strand is about 1/3 back in business, if that. The PB is completely closed, and gutted on first floor. The lofts looked amost ready to rent out. A phone number and signage was posted.

Murdock's is being rebuilt with the connecting buildings. Flagship is in bad bad shape. But, one corner is removed from the stucco and you can still see the mirror on the wall and the bed is still made... freaky!

boy i dislike Landry's.... how can it be a "historical pier" if there wasn't any of that mess - rollar coaster etc before now?

If they thought the place in Kemah was hit bad... what about that place!

My dad did all the work on the conveyer systems for Nabisco, Frito Lay and Kebbler... He used to bring home gobs of discarded treats - boxes were dented etc. We had the EL Fudge cookies right before they were placed on the shelves.

There is a Girl Scout camp down the road from where the List mansion was located. We use to pass it whenever we went to the camp during the 80's... The place was so bizarre looking that it always creeped us girls out. I remember just hating that we had to drive by it at night, since we always left on Fridays after school to go to the camps.

Now, knowing what happened there with the boys, and then the murder on top of that, I can't believe how close we were to it all.
