We lived on the old Chocolate Bayou Road(Cullen Blvd. now),8 miles south of Holmes Road
I know we went to drive-in movies just don't know the names. The Airline+Gulf rings a bell but it
could have been the Chocolate Bayou,I was just a kid in the 50s,could've been any drive-in
on this list. I remember Weingartens was near our place, also a place where we would ride
Shetland ponies, must have been around Holmes or Telephone roads?.
I didn't realize there were that many drive-ins in the Houston area!.

I remember going to Playland Park in Houston in the 1950s
as a kid, fond memories!. My step-dad operated the motor boats,my brother
and I would operate all of the lock levers to let boats out
and in,that wouldn't have happened these days!.
Please share your memories.
We lived on the old Chocolate Bayou Road, and now
I've heard it is "Cullen Blvd." We were close to Pearland,8 miles
south of Holmes Rd.,near the Brazoria/Harris county line.
What is out there now??. I remember there were cemeteries
around us and not much else!.
Thanks,

DENVER - Motorists in the Denver metro area
-
So instead of just exiting off the freeway and being at the road you want to be at, you have to exit the freeway, THEN exit the feeder road to get to the road you want to be on.
I understand now,we have similar situations here, get off of the inter-state onto the frontage
road, sometimes go a half mile before you reach the road you want to turn on!
I've only heard the terms "feeder and beltway" used on the Houston area
-
feeders are access roads or frontage roads...they lead to the freeway and are parallel to them, and generally have retail/businesses along them.
the beltway is a road that encircles houston (and the smaller loop 610) - part of it is tolled...
Thank You Sevfiv for that info,So feeder roads are frontage roads next to the inter-states
We have those, never heard the term feeder roads.
I stand corrected on the term "beltway",our toll highway E-470 that semi-circles
the Denver area, uses the term"beltway",but I have never heard the term on our traffic
reports.
-
The Denver area has no reference to these terms
I was born in Houston but left when I was young
and moved to New Orleans
Please explain?!

She is such a "painted hussy". I don't if you would have found Amy attending this awards show though, I'm pretty sure she is NOT up for any awards at this show.
No more Gospel Awards, dang it ! Next thing you know they'll be closing down Astroworld. Where does it end ?
y'all better be careful what you say 'bout Amy,
Vince is gonna come down there and kick
all y'all Texan butts!

Rick Casey at the Chronicle writes a nice piece on the political machinations behind the new rail plan.
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/m...n/casey/3231106
And the Chron also does a big story on how BRT works in Las Vegas. If Houston's BRT works as well as it does in Vegas, it may get upgraded fairly quickly. Time will tell.
Here is Denver's rail system now and expanding soon to cover
the whole metro area.

PEARLAND AND EVENTUALLY SEEING THE ROAD ON THE RIGHT THAT WENT TO MANVELL(MANVILL?)
DON'T KNOW IF THE ROAD CHANGED NAMES AROUND THE BEND OR NOT?
THERE WAS A ROAD THAT WENT TO THE RIGHT AT THIS BEND,THERE WERE RANCHES DOWN THIS ROAD AND IT WAS DEAD-END I BELEIVE?
THANKS All !

KJB:You're welcome
I don't know anything about the "Buffalo Bayou masterplan"?
My father was in the building trades and built his first house
on Cresline St. in Houston 'bout 1937 and later a house out on
Chocolate Bayou Road near Pearland.
My Dad was a native of Arkansas,Mom of La.,they arrived in
Houston in 1936.

I just said thanks for the links,
and
Our mainstreet masterplan is rough concept from visionaries.
-
Thanks,
The main street masterplan is just like the Buffalo Bayou masterplain.
The idea is that the plans are a guide of what we would like to see.
The city, private entities, and other organizations work to slowly add peices.
Not all of them peices may be completed. The masterplans are visions and concepts.
No idea what you're talkin' 'bout!
