I suppose it may have an opportunity to improve once it becomes I-69.

Ironically enough, 59 inside of the loop from the edge of the Greenway Plaza area through the Montrose will look somewhat similar to what was done on the Central Expressway in Dallas. Once the construction is done, the ivy and vegitation has matured more, and all of the bridges with the fibre optics are finished, it is going to be just as attractive, if not more so.

I'm very glad to hear this. My feelings on highways are that as long as we still have them, they should at least look good. Anyone have any renderings or some idea of what it will look like?

What have they done with US75 in Dallas? I guess they could try replicating that in Houston. By the way, you aren't from Dallas, right?

Actually, I was born and raised there, I just go to school in Huntsville, first time I've lived away in my life, these last four months.

I'll try to find some pictures of Central; it's a great looking stretch of highway.

What can I say? Some are worse than others. However, there are some highways that do an excellent job, proving it's possible, like US75/Central Expressway in Dallas, to name just one of many. I understand Seattle has great freeway entrances.

Also, if you find 59 depressing, what freeway in Houston do you find the most exciting? I-45 north or south, I-10 East or West, 290, or some other Freeway?

how is the drive down 59 depressing.  that is the stupidest things i have ever heard.  please explain.  because I think that 59 is one of the best drives in the city.  i love all the development along the freeway.  it makes you feel like you are in a city instead of some hick town.

I'm confused.  Why is JFK such a great name, but Bush is not?  This all sounds like sour grapes.  Every city tries to link themselves with presidents from the area.  This isn't unique to Houston.

The people and city of Houston put a lot of things before Sam Houston, sadly.

I think it's a great idea. It attempts to satisfy our current desire for quaint/upscale village/centrally located amenities. The clock tower does a bit look like the "Back to The Future" movie set though.

No no, I drove by this afternoon coming back from Corpus Christi. Not only is it almost cartoonish, but the surrouding area adds to the unreal quality of it.

That drive in along US59 is one of the most depressing drives I've ever made.

The Astrodome, like a lot of great monuments from the past, has served its purpose and should make way for progress.

Yeah, like that awful Empire State Building, or how about all of Washington, D.C! It's so very outdated! At the very least, tear down the Capitol Building. That could be a parking lot!

I am not as excited about the building on Main.  In my opinion, I would like to see Main lined with retail and/or residential in midtown. Medical buildings along Main belong in the medical center.  But in Houston it is first come first serve in terms of land use.

You do need some diversity. It's unrealistic to have an entire street with the length of Main to be "lined with retail." Not every building has to have retail on the ground floor, because if they did, then there would be a massive surplus of retail space that would only serve to drive vacancy rates up.

It's an interesting building to say the least, and I'd hope it would be, considering it's to be occupied by an arts organization. I've never heard of it before, actually. I would like to see more renderings when they become available.

Netflix is the way to go, you pick the movies online, and they mail it to your doorsteps.

Agreed, though I can't afford it right now, which doesn't matter because I don't have time for movies anyway.

I took after taking the train to the med center, I decided to take a quick trip to downtown to see what all was happening.  I was there briefly for a bite of pizza and seemed like there wasn't that much activity downtown.  What's up with that?  I was there at about 8-9pm, so I figured it was early, did it get busier as the night went along?

I did notice how COOL (Temperature wise) and peoploe seemed to dress appropriately.

Interesting. A friend and I went down at about 9.15 to get pictures, and it was really quiet down there. By the time we left at 10.30, it was still unusually empty.

I'm sorry.  But so far, this "Krystal Burger" thing doesnt seem as appetizing as a good, juicy, and greesy, Whataburger. (No. 5 with jalapenos).  That's my opinion and I'm sticking with it.

Yes of course, we must remain faithful to Whataburger, as it does serve us well. But greasy? Not Whataburger. It's better than that.
