  1. 5'8" ish), hispanic male wearing a black sweatshirt with a hood over his head.

I swear I saw a guy that fits this description just the other day at 10th and Sheperd....I know it could be one in 1000, but definitely about 5'8, black hoody, hispanic guy....

  2. It is sickening how easy it is for these people to get away with these crimes.

After this incident last week, I looked around my area to see what can I do to actively try and eliminate some of this BS. I never realized how many street lights were not lit,and so I called 311 to have them come out and fix it....then driving around the Heights, good lord there are so many lights not lit, and then having many trees blanket the area in darkness doesn't help! I would love for everyone to call and have them come fix there lights, its easy and takes literally 2 minutes....baby steps leads to leaps and bounds!

  3. I've lived in my part of the Heights for almost a year now and have never felt unsafe, but I do think the image/view of Shepard between 10th and 11th is gross....I see so much traffic that just makes the area look bad

  4. My fiance and I have lived in the Heights for about 4.5 years, but just recently bought in this section of the Heights. In my opinion, this part of the heights is slowly but surely coming along. I think in the 7 months since we've moved into this house the neighborhood has gotten better. You see slight changes for the better and less "trash" shall I say than we did when we first moved in. I keep saying in the next year or two, this whole end of the Heights is going to be great. I also have no problems calling the cops if some crackhead who is high off his azz is walking down the street yelling profanity, and being obnoxious. I really believe its just a matter of time before all of the drug dealing and non-sense is gone from this part of Houston, and good citizens basically "take over",for lack of a better expression.I'll be damned if I just bought a house only to be victimized by some crackhead!! The incident I am talking about seemed to be something the police have been monitoring for some time. It was by the apartments on 10th, but seemed to have nothing to do with the apartments, but I could be wrong. I have seen cops before with a guys car pulled over on the apts property, with bottles laid out on the hood. So to me I think the police know that complex seems to have some activity. Again, I just think its a matter of time before they're gone.

  5. Yesterday there was a suv surrounded by 4 cop cars, along with police dogs. Anyone know what that was all about? It was on 10th between Lawrence and Alexander. The cops were there for a couple of hours....looked like they were looking throughout the car.

  6. My fiance and I lived there from may '05 till April '08....loved it when first moved in, but by the time we moved out it was....well, different. It seemed that once in a while they'd have break ins with the cars and then like someone earlier said, they'd beef up "security" and everything was cool for awhile....People would literally sit in the culdesac and wait, once a tenant pulled in it would be like a free for all....sometimes its legitimate, but man it happened alllll the time! It almost seemed like the people hadnt even called they're friend or family member to buzz them in.....the reason I said "security" is bc it was not a full time security gaurd like some of the other alexan properties, but rather an HPD officer would swing by, walk around and then leave.......once in a blue moon, they'd actually watch the people going into the garage. MY ALL-TIME PET PEEV with that place was that people would literally sit outside the gate where people EXIT and wait for someone to leave, then go flying into the garage......pissed me off so bad! complaining to the office did absolutely nothing!

  7. I don't go past there much. Where are they dealing - the parking area or the b-ball shelter? (Academic interest only ;) ).

theres the constant cars(stationwagons with rims and subs) up and down that way.....a few neighbors of mine say that thats crack central down there....its easy to see that its kind of tucked away from main roads and traffic so its easy to do transactions. I've seen a "deal" go down with my eyes right at 10th and alexander too....guys on bikes with waads(sp?) of cash handing over what looked to be pills.

  8. Hey chiefbmg!

Welcome to HAIF and welcome to the neighborhood.

You know, you hate hear that something like this happened near where you live. But carjacking's like this can happen anywhere. Besides, we could live in River Oaks where people get kidnapped. Now, that's a rough neighborhood! :D

Thanks for the welcome....haha, this is very true-I always say no matter where you live, you're never 100% safe...its just the world we live in today, unfortunately!

  9. We heard about this and it is terrible news....My fiance and I are moving into a home 2 weeks from today right around the corner from the first car jacking. Kinda scary really. Hopefully they catch these thugs soon and it never happens again....
