  1. Does anyone remember a movie theater near the Granada called the "North Houston Movie Theatre"? My mom worked there back in the 50's. I would love to get her some info or photos, but I have hit a dead end. I know that it was next to Harold's (men's clothing) on Jensen Drive. Any memories or information that you may have would be greatly appreciated.

I am also looking for Houston dinner theatre photos from 60's and 70's. Specifically, the Dean Goss Dinner Theatre. Thanks.

  2. The Granada was one fine, modern theater when built around 1950-51. At that time the area of Jensen/Berry, called North Houston was the last major shopping area south of Humble. It was a Saturday ritual to drive there to do the family grocery shopping and for kids to enjoy the movies. I went to the Granada so many times when I lived north at Mt Houston. I recall the price was 25 cents. The actor (and Texas war hero) Audie Murphy was once there to promote his WWII story in To Hell and Back. There was a true Prince's Drive In next door where all of North Houston hung out in the 50s. On the other side of the Granada was a bowling center that later became a Star Furniture. And just north on Jensen was the Epsom Drive In movie, which in earlier years was the Epsom Downs horse racing track.
