  1. Please don't tell me you actually believe what is posted at Wikipedia is accurate.

Please tell me you don't discount it solely because it is on wikipedia. I think you're confusing current population trends with historical ones. White flight as a historical occurence is tied very closely to desegregation and the civil rights movement. While I don't know the particular history of Sharpstown, I can assure you that plenty of white people in the South did begin to leave their neighborhood at the first sign of any people of color. Many had a greater fear of their kids attending school with any children of color than they did of diminishing property values. While we are sufficiently progressive now we generally merely fear the poor, not people of another color, that was most definitely not true in the 60s and 70s.

  2. Let me add that it's a great commute if you work in the Medical Center. The Fort Bend Toll Road and South Main are fantastic (until you get to 610, which is where you get stuck for several minutes during rush hour. Eventually, FBTR is supposed to hit 610--don't know when or what type of interchange). 30 minutes in light traffic. 35-40 during rush hour. And I'm in the very, very back of Sienna, so it takes me 10 minutes to get to Hwy 6. Which is both a plus and a minus, because if you're in the back, you do drive a lot just to get to Hwy 6, but that also means it's very quiet back there. We see deer on a pretty regular basis. If you're looking to be 5 minutes from all the amenities, Sienna is not the best option, but if you want a quiet family-friendly neighborhood and don't mind being 15-20 minutes from the action in Sugar Land, it's a great option. Especially with home prices being considerably lower than the Sugar Land MPCs (more than makes up for $4/day in tolls).

  3. Definitely a ridiculous name. Guess they didn't want to use "town center" because it would be copying Sugar Land.

As far as I know, they will be calling it "Sienna Plantation Town Center." "Lifestyle Center" is just the description, to distinguish it from a shopping mall. On the Sugar Land Town Square website, the SLTS is also referred to as a lifestyle center. As to why Sienna Plantation, which is not a town, should have a town center, that I don't know. Just the trend, I guess, like the even worse-named "Grand Parkway Town Center."

  4. Had to resurrect this old thread to respond to the absolutely laughable claim that Sienna is not racially diverse. I live in the Waters Lake area in Sienna. The diversity is one of the things I love most about this neighborhood. In the 5 houses on my side of the street are 3 black families and 2 white families. In the two houses directly across from me are an Asian-American and a Hispanic family. Aside from the anecdotal evidence, the two elementary schools zoned to Sienna (Scanlan Oaks and Sienna Crossing) are both slightly more than 50% white, with Hispanic, African-American and Asian American varying between 8-22%. I can't find the data on Baines Middle, but last I checked it was very close to 30/30/30/10 (though I think I read that some Lake Olympia students had been diverted to Baines, so it may not be just a Sienna school). The demonstrable fact is that it is hard to get much more racially diverse than Sienna Plantation. http://www.har.com/school/dispSearchCampus...&sort=grade
