  1. This was one of the headlines on my Yahoo page when I logged into my yahoo account----U.S.'s Most Over-Rated Tourist Attractions

By Andrew Harper---------the Alamo is listed -- I'm not sure I agree--

I saw that too! I definately do not agree. Unless, it just means more to a Texan and "others" just don't get it.

  2. On the previous incarnation of HAIF it was possible to click view new posts, which would allow one to view all the most recent posts from all sub-forums at once. Does anyone know if there is a way to do this in the new HAIF HD?

On the menu bar, next to Traffic. I posted the same question.

  3. I'm sorry, I just can't find my way around (old dog, new tricks thing). I don't have a "view recent posts" or "view latest content" button that I can find. I'm trying really I am. It's just that that is what I always linked to when I came to this site.

  4. Hey HAIF,

I'm doing some research on an old motel turned inn.  A friend of mine was telling me about this old place near the Texas Medical Center called Main Street Inn located at 7905 South Main Street.

Has anyone ever heard of that particular Inn? The motel would have been active in the 1960s.  I believe the business was also called Sanchos Hide Away some years before hand.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could share pictures of this place.  Any old postcards around? Did anyone sleep here back in the day? Share your memories with us!!

  5. Growing up, we shopped at the Pasadena Foley's. I got my ears pierced at the jewelry counter. The lady just rubbed alcohol on my ear lobes and stuck the gold studs in! Hurt so bad I couldn't hardly walk and almost passed out. They had a record department with LPs, I remember spending what seemed like hours in there while my mom shopped. It was close to or connected to the books. They had a candy counter similar to what Sears used to have in their stores. I loved shopping at Foley's.

  6. I remember seeing it when it came out (I was just a baby). I remember the highlight was when the local news reporter Chris Chandler was punched out. Everyone anticipated that part the most. I believe he was with channel 2 but I could be wrong. Now, after working with drilling companies, I can really appreciate the hard work and danger these men go through and the brainwork (Red Adair) put into figuring out how to successfully fight oilwell blowouts.

  7. Item in THC's Medallion newsletter in PDF - scroll towards the end. http://www.thc.state.tx.us/medallionmag/me...Fs/md_03_09.pdf

Am I correct in memory that the location of the capture of Santa Anna took place atop the entrance on the Pasadena side? I recall visiting a marker that was placed there. As many times that I went through that tunnel as a kid and adult, I never knew I was going under the Bayou. I thought it was the ship channel!

Ok, found it. It's next to the "front gate" of the paper mill.

  8. Am 2 weeks behind... really sucks having to avoid this thread...

    La-la-la... not listening...

Sorry, I know I've had to avoid this thread and conversations at times. We're so busy during the week we usually have to catch up on weekends. I'm still wondering when Chloe and her counterpart Janis (?) are going to do battle - you know it's coming.

  9. I'm so mad one of my favorite characters bit it last night (don't want to spoil for anyone who hasnt seen it). Is the president's daughter good or bad? Is Ethan bad? Some of my friends thought he was bad from the beginning but he managed to hide it well if he is. I think Hodges must be a senator or someone really close to the White House. Jack's on the run again!!

  10. I could have sworn he was in that 2 hr. movie that came out before the season started, in Aftrica. I'm wondering what is on the ship that Juma threatened to blow up. Maybe that's the answer. He must have ties to the White House because he seemed to have paved the way for those guys to storm it.

  11. Just watched the two hour episodes. Wow. Glad to see agent Walker acting like a Bauer protege. I'm getting tired of the "to interrogate by torture or not to interrogate by torture" issue that keeps arising. I wanted to kick the Generals teeth in when he slapped Madame President. Now I know what purpose the presidents daughter served in the script (should have seen that coming). What's Tony doing? Figured out if Jack likes you, he'll just put you to sleep instead of killing you.

Can't wait for the next episode!

  12. I remember when the schools would let out for Go Texan Day so that you could go downtown to watch the parade. Houston's equivalent to Louisana's Mardi Gras week maybe? I had a little clip on bow tie thing that had GO on one ribbon and TEXAN on the other. Fun times.
