  4. $6300 sounds like highway robbery.

    flipper

My adjuster and roofer were almost on the $ as far as what my roof would cost. (long time roofer and long time adjuster) My home is 1630 sf and it cost $7200. I was on waiting list with other roofers where I was waiting until Nov. to get it done. It is done now. The roofer is one of the ones mentioned in this thread and very reputable. Considering what they showed me when they were pulling the roof off it really needed to get it done.

  5. Are you ready for food, fun and tailgating?

Michael Skelly, former wind energy CEO and current Democratic candidate for the US House of Representatives, and the staff of the North West Houston Campaign office cordially invite you to our grand opening party on Monday, 13 October 2008. Our office is located at 15530 FM 529 which is in the shopping plaza at the corner of Highway 6 and 529.

Come join Michael, your friends and neighbors, and the staff between 7pm and 9pm for a bite to eat and to chat about his campaign for Congress; pick up a yard sign or a bumper magnet, or even get involved with the campaign and help Michael bring new energy to Congress in November!

This will also be your opportunity to sign up to take a leadership role in your precinct by becoming a precinct captain! Those who sign up will receive the training and materials needed to organize and maximize the voter turn out for Michael.

Hot dogs will be served in the parking lot.

Bring your own beverages and side dishes or dessert contributions because this is a real tailgate!

Please RSVP at gareth@skellyforcongress.com or phone 832-465-9287 for more information.

  6. The apts. around Carrillo, (across from Gus Wortham GC) also was hammered. Nothing short of devastation.Bricks caved in, insulation hanging out, awful. The massive trees in front of the school were pulled up and they also do not have electric. Heard many of the kids ended up with nothing but the shirts on their backs. All their clothes and shoes were ruined.

Cannot believe the news was not focused here.

  7. A friend of mine called and said her insurance adjuster came to her home that had roof damage and leaks from IKE. Lives in the Bay Area. He declared the damage will not be covered because it will be considered windstorm damage. Wonder if this will be the norm when adjusters visit damaged homes. Is this how the insurance companies will try to get out of fixing the damages.

I did visit State Rep. Eiland's office in Austin yesterday and was told to call the Insurance Commission if one feels they are not being treated properly by their insurance company. I believe many people will have to fight to get repairs done if this will be a pattern.

  8. I spoke with young Gary today and let him know I had commented in regards to his tournament on HAIF. He asked I remind people that everyone is invited to play in his tourney and as I commented previously if you do not play there will be a silent auction and raffle. I committed to sponsor a hole. This is a wonderful cause and I hope others will at least wish him well on Tuesday.

Seems to be an incredible young man.

  9. I heard there are daily cock fights under the bridge now from 9a.m.-12p.m. and 3-5p.m., the three hour break being for siesta.

There will also be vendors present selling sombreros, ponchos and maracas

And, if you get too drunk, Jose's Taxi Service is available with seating for 15.

    Enjoy, everyone! :)

That's the exit I get off of everyday going to work. (coming in from the opposite side of the city). Person I ride with likes the "vibrant" colors. I just shake my head. You want light, you have it there.

By the way, as long as I have been travelling that route I have yet to see any of the above, although almost daily we do see the window washers with their pails and squeeges.

  10. The Redstone Companies is the operator of The Houstonian Hotel, Trellis Spa, The Houstonian Club, The Houstonian Country Club, Shadowhawk Country Club, Blackhorse Country Club and Redstone Golf Club.

Redstone Financial Group (also part of The Redstone Companies) is an investment banking firm with interests in HHN homes, Cafe Express, fast food franchises and other businesses in the area. They typically buy interests in distressed companies, re-org them and grow them to be profitable again. Redstone and everything they touch seem to be first-rate all the way. They are truly one of the finest companies in Houston.

I have had the pleasure of meeting one of the heads of this company and his family through a set of funny circumstances at the Shell Open. ( I will not go into how so I do not embarass anyone). But the family is first rate and they treated my family and myself wonderfully. I still see them each year at the Open. It is not my place to endorse any company since I did not purchase their product but I can see why customer service may be so good. Again, no endorsement just exceptionally nice people.

  11. -I think HHN's parent company (or large equity investor) is Redstone. You could find out the name of the LP partners from the Secretary of State.

-568 homes registered with the TRCC, no complaints to date. Since the TRCC data is about three-four years old that means they build about 150 to 200 units a year.

This is no commentary on this builder at all-just FYI on TRCC.

Just because there are no complaints listed on the TRCC website, do not think all is well.

The Sunset Commission recently concluded that TRCC should be abolished. The Sunset has been inundated with complaints on builders that TRCC has not addressed or closed out with homes falling apart.

Sunset oversees all other commissions in Tx.

One can go to Homeowners for Better Building to see continued reports and articles referring to TRCC.

Is Redstone connected with other Redstone investments as well as the Redstone Golf Course?

  12. Wish I could be there Andy. This is such a worthy cause. I hope the tournament is a huge success!

I hope so also. Found out Bubba's Sports Bar and Grill and Seymor's Catering wil be sponsoring the lunch.

610 Sports radio has been promoting the tournament and Ken Hoffman did an article on it. 99.1 will also be promoting it.

Quite a few donations have been coming in. Hope for Gary's sake and the sake of all those with CP this will take off.

  13. The first annual Gary J. Lynn "Rid The World Of Cerebral Palsy" Golf Tournament will be held at Wildcat Golf Club on September 9,2008 at 8:30 tee-off. The proceeds will be given to Dr. Mindy Aisen, CEO of research and education for Cerebrl Palsy. Dr. Aisen was the doctor to Christopher Reeves after his terrible horseback riding accident. She will be in attendance at the tournament.

Gary is a 16 year old with Cerebral Palsy. He is a straight A student at Spring High School and has been blessed to have met so many wonderful people. He feels the best way to one thank everyone is to help raise money for CP so that one day no child will be in a wheelchair and every child will be able to speak.

Gary was recently filmed by Andrea White, wife of Mayor Bill White for her new book "Window Boy" a book about a boy with Cerebral Palsy. His foundation is sponsored by Churchill's Britain and supported by Marc Vandermeer, voice of the Houston Texans.

Gary's website www.thegaryjlynnfoundation.org will let people know how fortunate he has been. Please visit www.churchillsbritain.com as Gary tells why he has created his own foundation.

The golf tournament includes, breakfast, lunch, raffles auction, door prizes, trophies(four person scramble) and much more coming. Registration is on Gary's website. E-mail Gary for any questions. :D:D:D

I saw this on another forum and stated I will sponsor a hole. Looks like gary has many friends. Hope others will do something to help so this becomes a success.

  14. This terrifies me. My house was completed in 10/07 and I still hasn't been valued (nothing in my neighborhood has apparantly). Its listed on HAR as "pending." I went to HAR in March to file my homestead and at first they wouldn't accept it because I didn't exist in the system. So I made them create a file for me so I could get the homestead. So now I'm on HCAD but still listed as "pending." Its August and I have no idea what I'll be appraised at! Recent sales of my floorplan over the past 12 months ranged from 229 to 263. I paid 245. New homes (same designer, slightly different plan) are selling for 299. I could be assessed anywhere form 229 to 299, but I likely won't know until a week before taxes are due! Will I be able to protest? I want to pay before 12/31 so I get it on this year's tax bill. Ugh.

    Jeff

The link below was an investiagtive report that Stephan Dean of KPRC did a few months ago. I emailed him with my griefs on how absurd my experience was with their panels. He stated to me he was going to be watching. Just my opinion but you could email him with your issue as a follow up. You can also call Paul Bettancourt's office and complain. There is a lady who can take your complaint if you feel that you were treated unfairly.

    http://www.click2houston.com/investigates/...236/detail.html

Of course in the end you probably will go to arbitration but in your case it may be worth it.

  15. If you think what this person is experiencing is out of the norm I will tell you to look at Homeowners For better Building and Homeowners Against Deficient Dwellings. The problems are getting worse. A recent editorial by Richard Weekley ( Dave's brother) in the Chron. last week prompted numerous responses about the homebuilding industry.

TRCC has yet to hit a big builder. The so called fines, most of which are for late registration are given to smaller builders. One builder was hit with a fine for fraud and deception. The fine, $500 and 2 years probation, but the complaints keep rolling in.

People basically have to take things in their own hands.

When my problems arose, my jerky builder called in an engineer to do testing. The results showed problems and the builder actually dismissed the findings. Did that twice. It is a long bumpy road when you end up with a bad house and your builder refuses to act ethically.

  16. The BBB is a joke.

Tell that to the residents in the subdivision where the builder left out all their personal information folders. Right there, in a garage with no door. That builder had a good record with the BBB too.

    Incredible.

  17. As for me never again. My builder still has a good rating with the BBB and my experience with the BBB was as bad as the piece of garbage my builder threw together for me. I can't help thinking about the 3 Little Pigs. My house is comparable to Pig 1and 2.

I would not know who to go to to end up like pig3.

If you have not been on the HOBB.org site do so. It is an education to be had as far as homebuilding.

  18. i totally agree. if i had the time I would want the floor board pulled out and fixed but it seems unrealistic at this point.

i am still lingering on the idea of filing the TRCC complaint but there is some progress as he said he will pay for *part* of the repair. how much that *part* is still questionable now. i dont want to file the complaint as of yet and then have him less than willing to comply with anything. thank you for the suggestion I will use it as a worst case scenario before a full blown lawsuit over fraud. well i dont know if it would be called fraud as he changed some numbers on invoices where the numeral 1 turned into a 6, charged for items that the vendor and sub contractor did not charge him, made a fake check and gave it to a subcontractor to show that it was "paid" on the invoice, i could go on for ever.

just an fyi HeightsGuy, the builder is constructing several homes and townhomes in the Heights area also.

Before you think of a lawsuit better check your contract and see if your builder stuck in a Mandatory Binding Arbitration Clause. If so forget the courts and you really do not want to got to MBA. You can read much on Homeowners for Better Building on MBA, TRCC and other issues connected with the building industry. I too have a house of horrors and even though I have met with TRCC several times I just cannot push myself to file. I spoke with someone who filed on my builder. The TRCC inspector ruled for the homeowner, the builder called and complained and TRCC reversed their judgment in favor of the builder.

I am starting to do some fixing up on my own.
