@Leonard and Purlpledevil,
When I drove to work on 4/18 around 9 or 10 AM I saw the bayou flowing over the deck of the Heights bridges and was forced to drive over the Yale bridge. Luckily the Yale bridge was left open even though that was the original date it was supposed to be closed.

I've tried searching the city website for any building permits pulled for 2301 Yale, but the permit search does not seem to be working lately. Anybody else having trouble with it or is it just me?

So they thought it would be ok to clean out the old dry cleaners and just leave all their junk in front for everyone to enjoy while commuting down Yale. I wish they would've left it in their building. I'll be calling COH code enforcement soon to report the "rat harborage".

Saw a sign go up for this today on the lot:

The 'why settle for old' with the picture of a suburban house scares me. Has David Weekly built other homes in the Heights?
Northwest corner of 10th and Waverly is a Weekley build.

Work has begun as of this morning. Looks like water main repair.

Apparently the owner filed for "protected landmark status" of the Windward Court Apartment at 901 Rosalie in January of 2010. See info here:
http://www.houstontx.gov/planning/historic_pres/HAHC_20100108/PLM_901_Rosalie_St_Winward_Apts.pdf
According to the link it was built circa 1923.
I've worked across the street from this building for years now and have always been fascinated with it. I just walked by a few minutes ago and saw a blue City of Houston sign on the front saying it is unsafe and scheduled to be demolished. The back (brick) wall on the second floor is starting to bow inward. I hope when the building does fall that the bums are not still sleeping underneath. If you look down from the sidewalk you can see their sleeping bags and Old English 40ozs. I remember going to the Fear Factory during high school about 15 or 20 years ago and at the time I had no idea of the architectural or historical significance of the building. Then again when you're being chased down a dark stairwell by a guy with a chainsaw I guess your mind is in another place.

I have a basic understanding of Newtonian physics. That is enough.
(Disclaimer: I claim no knowledge about anything Newtonian.)
Buuuuut, does not a storm surge flow outward from the center of the hurricane much like the air or shockwave from the center of a bomb blast. I'm just sayin'.

TODAY IS DAY 17 WITHOUT POWER. I brought up my TV and cable modem for a few hours last week w/ my neighbor's generator and it actually worked. If that action voids the credit I was supposed to get, I'm gonna be pi$$ed.

It's hot here, and "no one" walks anywhere (except crazy people who like hotness).
Lazy people make me .
Gas prices go up -> Houstonians drive less -> Houstononians walk more -> Houstonians lose weight -> Houston stops winning "Fattest City" awards.
Yay!

Swamplot today is running the demo permit for the strip mall. I think I saw a tractor on the site today, too.
Demolition just started. I'm watching it through my window in the HCC building. It'll probably be a pile of rubble by the time I get back from lunch.
As for the comment on the "failed" attempt at retail space in the ground level of the HCC garage, it may not have worked as retail but HCC is making a killing leasing it to St. Luke's hospital as a large call center.

I just did a permit search on the City Of Houston site and the only permit I found for 1102 Yale is a recent one for the removal of a non-load bearing wall. I guess that means maybe someone is restoring the building. (Or at least didn't purchase the demo permit yet.)

In the last few days they have begun removing the old "Eckerd's" signs from 1102 Yale (@ 11th St.) and you can see the original facade of Ivy-Russell Ford. I'm not sure if they're gonna demo, but there's definitely something going on.
