  1. The house has been "near completion" for a couple years now.

i had the privilege of accompanying a friend to this mansion last week. there is active construction going on. there seemed to be alot of "finishing" work going on(painting, custom study shelving, cabinet work)

we were not allowed to wander through the place(my friend has been on an extensive tour), but to say there's "alot going on" with that house is an understatement

what is the deal with the other house on Rivercrest...it appears to be a COMPOUND with like 3 different residences on the property? anyone know what i'm talking about?

  2. ate at the Cabo replacement NORTON'S today. a little 'hickish' in the theme. very loud C&W music is playing and the staff is not polished. the CFS i had was actually quite tasty. food temp was not the greatest. my husband had a bacon cheeseburger which actually was very good. not sure we'll return, the ambience is not us.

  3. Not sure what was going on Saturday night, but a "Gospel Concert" featuring some major names in the Gospel industry was held Friday night. They were raising Funds and Food for a charity(i believe Beyonce/Kelly Rowland via World Music), so the Saturday event may have been a continuum of that?? or like someone mentioned, a Bday party for the privileged papoose!

  4. On the flip side, i've seen some ugly looking biracial children. Only the good looking ones are publicized with photos that you see on tv,etc.
there's plenty of UGLY no matter what culture one is(beauty being only skin deep right) a little ridiculous to say ONLY. but maybe it's your social circle. i see an example (outside of my home) DAILY. oh and just maybe your perception of attractiveness is very different than most.
Why is race such a prevailing concern around here? It always seems to be our African American posters who are constantly bringing it up, too. What gives? People are people.
Not sure if an African American began the thread, but ultimately it's about INTER-RACIAL dating so would that imply that possibly a NON African American may even have concern? there were several responses from NON African Americans so the dialogue convinces me it's not so exclusive with regard to concern.
  5. a little twist on this...

if you are a black man, with a white woman, the black women are going to give you and or her a look. houston isn't the only place you'll get that, of course, but you will get it. ESPECIALLY if you are a good looking man or a man who looks like he might make a high six figure income.

as far as other races, no one will really look at you any differently as an interracial couple... but to say no one cares isn't exactly true, either. they just keep mum about it.

TAK a.k.a. Kanye....your post made me giggle

way to go on the "gold digger" stereotype

being a biracial woman(black/hispanic) married to a black man, WOMEN period give the look.

some black women don't consider me black enough

hispanic women(oh and don't get me started on the men)look at me with disdain and disgust.

usually gringo amiga types don't give a darn.

like someone previous mentioned, i too am of the disposition that it matters none what others think. i do have some friends who are a bi-racial couple(he:blk/she:cauc) that moved to Pearland from D.C. and have since returned because the wife was not comfortable with her perception of the lack of acceptance. get thicker skin i say!

p.s. interracial children are beautiful...i'm living proof!

(ok before i get hit up with PM's requesting pics...it's 2:40 a.m. and i'm giddy off of cold/flu meds and/or hot totty..totall being facetious)

  6. I posted this earlier, but way back. Central Texas BBQ in Pearland has a wide variety of good sides. More like steam table veggies than the usual beans and cole slaw.

Yes! IMO the sides are the hit at CMBbq. The New Potatoes(with cheese, sour cream, scallions) are our family's fave! The Macaroni & Cheese is nice too, once you add some black pepper and a little salt it's perfect. The loaded baked potatoes, and the Pinto beans are top notch also.

    I love the Jalapeno& Cherry peppers/Pickles/Onion bar!

My husband likes the ribs. For me they are a little too "fall of the bone". Almost wonder if they boil them first.

  7. ate there a week ago. they are experiencing new opening chaos. the food took an hour to get, and it was COLD. the management comped our meal before we could even complain. the server was gracious so we tipped her generously. the food quality was not anything i'd break my neck to return for. the place was full(Tuesday night) and had a great mix of couples, families, singles. The bar is separate enough that it does not feel like you are hanging out at a bar like environment, if you have your family with you.

  8. interesting that the prices are being referred to as higher(i don't agree). like Chamo mentioned, i'm comparing to Krogers. I've often felt Target's grocery prices ran on the high end. So there was no sticker shock to me. I too don't think the experience is worth the crowd right now. Hopefully people will get over the fascination and it will become a more norm shopping experience. if not i guess i'll shop there at midnite

sidenote: i did try the asiago cheese bread from the bakery and the lasagna from the Cafe on the Run. BOTH delish!

bottled water was $2.99 for a 32 pack! that was an amazing savings

  9. I've tried the bigmamashomecooking place and it was ok. The prices are a little high. I've spoken with many of my neighbors in Pearland and they all want a Luby's here. Hey, I hate cooking everyday, so Luby's would help me out tremendously.

BMHC charges $10.00 for a meat/3sides/drink. You can't beat that with a stick! Luby's(decent)entrees are at a minimum $7.00 i believe, after you add your sides and drink you can easily leave there spending 12$+ (this has been my experience)

I've lived here almost 7yrs and have never had a conversation where "Luby's and Needed" were in the same sentence...LOL, but alas, who am I?

Have you considered DREAM DINNERS? I have heard wonderful reviews of the cuisine and cost as it translates to the average family. I keep meaning to pop in the location(next to Picasso's Place) that is in the shopping center across from the Krogers on 518/Cullen

  10. there is a wonderful new "home cooked" food restaurant in Pearland. Big Mama's Homecookin' (www.bigmamashomecookin.com)

Not as big and spacious(i consider this a good thing), but serves up exceptionally well seasoned home cooked fave's. The catfish is INCREDIBLE. i personally think a Luby's is way off the charts in way of what Pearland "needs", but i certainly understand the necessity for a Family Style restaurant featuring something other than Mexican, Italian, etc.. As per mentioned in a previous post, there is a Golden Corral on the way, i'm sure that will be popular with the Buffet Minded diners.
