  1. I am really confused by the second one. Are those really the same house? Where did the second floor go? And were the windows on the original second floor bricked in or something? Where did the sidewalk go?

Yes they are the same house. I guess I should have loaded some of the during construction pics. I added on to the front of the house so I could keep the existing roof line on the existing house and bring down the front elevation plate hight. That way it would save the client some money.

Also the all white pait was his idea.

Thats also the reason there is no sidewalk. He spent more money than he should have before I came along. So he didn't have enuff to do the flatwork.

Also the Windows on the before elevation were bricked in but they were like that in the original house with only shutters to simulate windows.

Houston designs in the 70's. They do not need to work, they just needed a sucker to buy them.

  2. Here are a few before and after pics of projects I've designed in the last year. As a new member I would like the groups imput. Let me know what you think.

Keep in mind the client drove the design on the second one and had started remodeling the existing house before I became involved.

  3. I'm with gwilson on this. I'm a designer and I have to constantly convince clients to change thier floor plans to try and save 100+ year old trees on thier lots. They don't understand that trees are what drives home values up. If you just want big there's plenty of cow pasture lots around.

  4. Why would someone not hire a draftsman if he had years experience in designing residential homes? I had a client who said they could not hire me because a was not a licensed architect.

Are any of you guys draftsman?

Speaking as a designer who has worked in the greater Houston area for 12 years one of the first things you need to do join a group like A.I.B.D. and work through them to get your profesional certifacation. Some subdivisions like the Woodlands require you to have prof. seal to design there. This will improve your chances of more work as a desiner.
