  1. I think the Park View will improve significantly over the next 2-8 years. Having Discovery Tower built will help, and when the other parkfront lots are (hopefully) developed in the near future, the Park View will be much more impressive than it is now. And--for the record--I think the park area is going to look fantastic once remaining adjacent lots are developed (both from inside the park and looking down onto the park).
  2. Isn't that the first confirmation fof plans to build Phase II immediately after Phase I? I know there has been a lot of talk about Phase II around here, but I hadn't heard anything concrete on the plans.
  3. Thanks very much for the pictures. This tower is going to look awesome from Discovery Green. It's really going to change the feel in the park to have this thing towering over the park. OPP was a great start, but Discovery Tower is really going to change how this park feels. Discovery Green, One Park Place, and Discovery Tower are all great additions to the City of Houston.
  4. Pretty sure KJB is referring to this article: http://swamplot.com/grave-concerns-for-reg...are/2008-08-28/ http://www.khou.com/news/local/stories/kho...ves.22ac15.html I'm interested to know if any potential discoveries would cause problems during the development process.
  5. ^ That would make sense. There was a lot of activity around the site today. About 15-20 cars parked on the former Allen House lot, and across the street the bulldozers pictured above tore up the entire parking lot for 1203 Dunlavy. There were a lot of workers on site and workers were up on the roof doing some sort of work most of the day. I'm not sure what the roof and parking lot work is for. No changes noticed on the Allen House lots yet.
  6. Drove by at around 6PM today to look at this. There were no cars and no people on the lot, and I didn't notice any significant changes to the lot from before. I did notice a couple of small signs attached to the entry of the lot, so those are probably the J.E. Dunn construction signs you mentioned (which is good news). However, as I was driving by I did notice 2 small dozers tucked away on a lot across the street. So I circled back and parked in the lot to see if I could find anything linking these to the J.E. Dunn / Regent Square. This is the building and parking lot at 1203 Dunlavy--which is immediately across the street from the empty Allen House lots (this is not where the group of construction trailers are located. They are located further away at Rochow, I think, between W. Dallas and W. Clay). I have no information about this development that isn't available here, but the recent activity (trucks on site, new signs, etc.) is encouraging:
  7. Because it's one of the largest Business Districts in the United States. Because it employs more people and is larger than the CBDs of many other large cities in the U.S. Because when I look at its impressive skyline, I don't think of a shopping mall--I think of a vibrant, exciting, increasingly-urban employment center where many people live, work, and shop. Ultimately, I don't think it's a big deal. I just think that calling it the "Galleria area" isn't representative of most of the development and activity in the area. Calling it the "Galleria area"--in my opinion--is selling that part of town short.
  8. I prefer "Uptown" too. The area deserves better than to be referred to as "the Galleria area" (essentially the surrounding area of a shopping mall).
  9. According to this recent Chronicle article, the bridge will go over the lake. I too would like to see a rendering... http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headli...es/6043258.html
  10. Here's a brief update. I've noticed 2-3 workers on the property the past 3 days cleaning up large objects and doing some work with a blow torch (I live around the corner, so I have a vested interest). Since this is the first movement I've noticed on the site since the Allen House demolition, I stopped today to ask one of the guys what they were doing. Granted, this is from a guy at the bottom of the totem pole who may or may not have any clue what's going on. The worker said they were doing site prep work to prepare for the ground work for the development. Said they were removing large debris that was left over from the demolition and they were cutting out some metal structures left over from the old Allen House covered parking. I asked him if they were about to start development work there, and he said "yeah, we're about to start the ground work here, but it may be a few months." He asked me if I lived around here, and he said, "It's about to get really noisy around here." Again, take this for what it's worth. It's from a site worker wearing a hard hat who may or may not know anything. I just noticed some minor work being done on the site, so I inquired. I would welcome input from those on the board who are connected in the development community. Given the current economic outlook and credit situation, I'm worried that a lot of these projects won't get off the ground. Here's hoping that this one actually makes it...
  11. I'm not concerned about different branding of the two areas (the streets even change names when crossing the bayou bridges). What I am concerned about is being able to walk between the two. A ton of exciting development is going on both immediately South of the bayou and immediately North of the bayou. The areas are as closely connected as any place in the city--divided only by a 5 minute walk over a great park space with the best downtown views in Houston. However, walking the narrow sidewalks on the Montrose or Waugh bridges is quite unwelcoming to typical pedestrian traffic. Having a signature pedestrian bridge in this area (which would provide amazing views of downtown, by the way) would be great for the area and for the city. Actually, it'd be nice if pedestrians could easily walk both the Waugh and Montrose bridges, but I'll settle for one.
  12. The pedestrian potential for this area is pretty exciting, especially if Regent Square and the Archstone development are built. Combine that with a new pedestrian bridge and the Whole Foods / Finger development, and this area would be a very interesting place.
  13. The ones toward the top are new to HAIF. They've been on the developer's site for a month or so. The pictures of "Regent Park" in the daytime and nighttime were added to Developer's site in the past week or so. Older versions of the ones in the middle were "stiched" together by other HAIF users from older marketing materials. Also, there have been posts here and on Swamplot about the "Ghost Tower" shown in one of the images. As I'm looking at it, the newest renderings of the full development (i.e., the first image) and the Retail Leasing Plan appear to show that the "Ghost Tower" is just the condo tower proposed in Phase 2 (as opposed to a separate development or even the proposed Finger condo, as previously suggested). Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that...
  14. Here are all of the most recent Regent Square images from the Developer's site (http://www.naberkowitz.com/project_regent.shtml):
  15. I'm kinda doubtful about One Park Place being lit up at night. Discovery Tower looks like it will be lit up well at night, however.
  16. This building is going to be an awesome (and unique) addition to downtown. And Jax is the man for his dedicated picture-posting.
  17. I can't wait to see this building really start to crawl. It is going to be pretty prominent in the Allen Parkway/Memorial area, especially because its base is a bit higher than the buildings on the South side of the bayou. Will make the drive down Allen Parkway/Memorial even more enjoyable once it gets on up there in height.
  18. I also saw men posting a sign for the development on the Travis side of the block this morning on the way to work (I believe there is already one on the other side). It's possible that they were just moving it, I'm not sure. This was on the land outside of the fence.
  19. A pedestrian bridge would be awesome. This area will really be transforming into a more walkable area over the next few years. There will be a lot to do in this area between: the developments at Regent Square, the Whole Foods and accompanying developments on W. Dallas between Waugh/Montrose, the parks along Buffalo Bayou, and everything North of the Bayou including the new Studemont tower, the Archstone development, and the existing residential in Memorial Heights. This area is going to be a great place in 3 years or so. Having a pedestrian bridge would make it even that much better. With so much development on both sides of the Bayou, it would be a shame to have no way to walk across.
