Plus, Apple already had a big operation in Austin.

As someone who currently works in the tech "bubble" and previously worked in Seattle's tech bubble, I've never understood the attraction of either Seattle of Austin.  San Francisco makes sense because of air transportation links, climate, and a good number of big city amenities for a city its size.  But in my experience, both Seattle and Austin are more hype than reality.

Austin, at least, has a big university churning out people who can think.  Seattle has banana slugs and guys commuting to work at video game companies on unicycles wearing kilts.

As does Seattle. The University of Washington is located there. Great city that also has tons of big city amenities. I think you're selling Seattle short here.

According to those estimates the growth is in excess of 6,000 per year. If this is correct and continues the population should be around 525,000 by 2020. Thanks for the info.

I forgot to post another update but they have one from as of 12/31/2016.

    http://www.harriscountytx.gov/CmpDocuments/74/Budget/FY18 Population Report.pdf

Has the inner loop at 519,000. If this is true, 525,000  could be reached by this year, if not already.

It is going to be interesting the impact all these low and high rise apartments and condos are going to have on the intra-610 loop population. I would think it is approaching the 1960 population of 493,000 and will soon exceed.Hope so.

How accurate is page 2 of this study??

This lineup is better then anything the super bowl will throw. Kendrick lamar/pitbull/maroon 5/florida are a strong performance. Plus the final four crowd is much more lively then the older corporate crowd that the super bowl carters to.

I don't know. The Super Bowl weekend socially is far more popular with those same artists than the Final Four. There will be more parties around town and in downtown I bet for that weekend. Similar to the NBA all star weekend I would imagine.

We can dream. But the expanse of the Tarkett plot seems incongruous with such a multi-level center, which was plopped onto 5.5 acres in a very dense part of DC (and right next to a subway station). You could fit four of those into Tarkett if you forgo the typical Houston salt flat of parking.

I don't live to far from this DCUSA. It's three levels and there is a parking garage. On the first level is Modell's, Marshalls, and Payless. On the second floor is Target, Best Buy, and Bed Bath and Beyond. On the third level is a Washington Sport's Club. Right across the street are apartments to the left and across the street and there is more retail on the first floor of both apartment buildings. There's many more retail stores in this area right under the the Target like a Ihop, Chick-Fil-A, etc. It's an extremely popular area of DC and it is always packed. Just a mere 3 minute walk is a little square in front of another apartment with retail on the bottom. Across the street from the apartment is Giant grocery store.

  6. I know it is a pipe dream but Trader Joes would be ahuge win!!!!

I don't think it's that much of a pipe dream. Aldi's I believe is the parent company for Trader Joe's and they are about to explode into the Texas market by building a warehouse in North Texas that will serve the state of Texas and southern Oklahoma by fall 2009. History shows that wherever Aldi's goes, Trader Joe's quickly follows.

  7. Why can't Houston get a 1,000 footer or a 1,500 footer like Philly (the 1500 footer was recently announced). Instead, our Downtown gets thirty-story towers. Up the ante a bit and put in some fifty-story towers.

It took Philly forever to build structures this tall. Philly's skyline has been short for some time now until recently. It's honestly about time Philly started to build structuers this tall. Philly was patient and Houston will have to be as well and it looks like they are. You don't need to build supertalls for nothing.

  8. What's even funnier to me is that the cowchicks fans (at least here) are reacting in a completely different fashion than would a Texans fan. Texans fans would be cursing the team, and screaming "off with their heads" had we lost in that fashion. We most certainly wouldn't be reacting like this, in fact, I can't think of any city that would react in this way. LONG LIVE THE COWBALLS!

That's just on here. But on the Zone and on CF, most Cowboy fans are not taking it well but have moved on and talked about what we need to do next year to improve. As a Cowboy fan, I never bring up the 5 rings thing or history unless I really really have to. But that subject did not nered to be brought up in this discussion. Hopefully we improve on the draft with our two draft picks. Or, we made trade our two draft picks to Miami for their number 1 pick. We have alot of cap room to work on and we need another receiver. Glenn is done. I like that we may get Fitzgerald or Roy Williams.

  9. Please. Emmit Smith wasn't even that good. You could run an SUV through that offensive line he had. I would take Earl Campbell, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, and a few others over Emmit. I really don't know what you see in Reggie that has him being one of the NFL's top ten leading rushers of all time. Deuce McAllister has been down since the third game, and Reggie has produced squat as a running back. I'm not saying Ron Dayne is good either (because he isn't), but Reggie is just an average running back. Adrian Peterson in half of a season has more rushing yards than Bush has had since last year.

Name the few others. I can understand Walter Payton and maybe Barry Sanders and I say maybe because Barry did not perform well under pressure especially in the playoffs and he did have pro bowler Lomis Brown on the offensive line. If other running backs could run through that offensive line, how come all the other backs couldn't? Barry was a better runner than Emmitt. Emmitt was the better rusher and the more complete back. Blocking, Catching the ball out of the backfield, and running is what made Emmitt great. If Emmitt wasn't that good, why did the Cowboys start 1993 0-2 and once he came back, the Cowboys proceeded to go 12-2 on the way to winning it's 2nd straight superbowl.

  10. That's because the any team that the Cowboys have a really tough time beating, they don't see them as a rival, they see them as somebody they DON'T want to play, thus they try to forget about them, i.e. The Houston Texans.

No that's not it. We have a losing record against the Niners all time but we see them as one of our chief rivals. It comes down to history and there is none between the Cowboys and Texans and there probably never will be one unless the two teams meet in the superbowl.

  11. There really aren't too many Cowboys fans in Houston. Probably just a little more than the Texan fans in DFW. And please, anytime I talk Texans with Cowboy fans, they start rabbling on about how we suck.

Which is why I exactly said outside of the Houston area. If you do go outside of the Houston area, you will rarely here that from Cowboy fans. I just find it funny how Texan fans have the Cowboys as one of there top rivals yet Cowboy fans do not think of the Texans as rivals at all. In fact, the Texans have the Cowboys as one of their top 5 rivalries while the Cowboys have the Texans outside of the top 10.

This isn't a diss to the Texans because I actually root for them when they aren't playing the Cowboys. But it's still weird yet funny to see the hatred be so one-sided.

  12. It was only the biggest and most hyped game of the season, so it is no surprise that it is the highest rated. Houston has a large contingent of Cowboys fans. It has an even larger contingent of Cowboys haters (myself included). It is only natural that we would watch the game most likely to produce a loss by the Cowboys.

lol. That's funny though. Most Dallas fans outside of the Houston area or even Texas do not know that Texan fans hate the Cowboys so much. I'm a huge Cowboy fan and I don't hate the Texans because there really is no need. I and many other Cowboy fans I know root for the Texans because they are from Texas. Wonder why the hatred is so one-sided. Is it because of the amount of fans in Houston that are Cowboy fans.

  13. Jerry Sloan has never really done anything special in the playoffs. JVG hasn't done much either, I think JVG ios more of an honorable coach especially in the eyes of his players. Hopefully he take sthe Utah Series and hopefully they still another series.

You're right. He's only been to two back to back NBA Finals. He would be a two-time NBA champion if it wasn't for a certain Jordan beasting in Chicago.

  14. LA's skyline ain't all that .... Houston's better. Chi-town is bigger and all, but H-town is on the move. Give us 20 yrs. :)

Add a 0 on there and you may have a point. It's going to take alotttt longer than 20 years for any city not named New York to catch up to Chicago in the United States.

  15. I believe that no team out there can beat a healthy T-Mac, Yao , and Rockets. Yes, i really believe that a healthy Rockets team(especially those two) can beat any team out there. That includes San Antonio and Dallas, Phoenix, etc. in a 7 game series. With Shane and a good bench, this team should win it all.

I'm sorry but I don't. What I think hurts the Rockets is the lack of experience in the playoffs. I don't believe anybody on the team has even been to the 2nd round besides Bonzi. Also, the lack of consistent point guard play and power forward play will be their downfall. Especially at the point guard position. They can give them a scare, but I think the Mavs, Suns, and Spurs are better. Yes Spurs. Do not sleep on them because they are having a tough time right now. They usually pick up their play on the rodeo trip which is happening in a couple week.

But the team to beat right and in the playoffs will be the Mavs. They are still the defending western conference champions and are playing the best basketball out of any team in the league.

  16. True that, but how many people would stay in school an extra year knowing that they'd get a better chance at getting paid MORE millions the next year? > :)

    :lol::lol::lol:

Okay, all jokes aside; the Cowboys season was done on Thanksgiving. They just look like they ran out of gas. I was surprised the Cowboys made the playoffs, but they earned that right because of their mid-season play. The Texans look like they have more hope next season than the 'Boyz in my opinion. And what was up with that work "improbable?" The Seahawks are a better and more solid team that the 'Boyz. Where's the shock? Last season, the Seahawks won the NFC and made t to the Super Bowl. Where were the Boyz? Dallas is an offseason of successful free-agency from being a solid team, but signing Owens in the offseason isn't enough. Blame him all you want, but people need to remember that this was Romo's first season, and that will equal lack of experience. He'll be great, but he still needs work.

Also, the last draft wasn't bad; just risky. If we have a successful draft and focus on OL more than QB, I also expect the Texans to have a better record than the Boyz next season. The problem isn't the fact that Carr is QB. The problem is the fact that we depend too much on Carr/QB. There should be more answers/options. Stronger OL, develop a strong rushing game, AND develop a strong passing game. Create options. New Orleans has that. We have the capability with our current talent to add a small amount of players that could develop into that next season. Depth is key.

I am going to respectfully disagree. The Cowboys are a bit more talented than the Texans but the Cowboys coaching is not good whatsoever. Bad playcalling, horrible preperation, too many off the field antics, bad schemes developed by coaching, and an undisciplined team was what killed this team. This team should have been much better than 9-7. They have the players, but not the coaching. We could not rush the qb because Mike Zimmer and unimaganitive mind could not create any scheme to do so and BP doesn't like to blitz because he doesn't like to get burned. As a result, that killed our secondary which already had a safety who can't cover and another safety who's just learning the speed of the game. Also, we also had a couple players that half assed out there on the field like Bradie James for example. Offensively, we did not address the problem last offseason enough and that's the oline. Rivera is done and so is Flozell Adams. The only bright spots were Columbo and Gurode. We could not pass protect nor open holes for our running backs.

The game has passed Bill by. One coach is now gone and that is Zimmer and most Cowboy fans are ready to throw a parade. The other needs to remove himself as well and I really believe there's a good chance it will happen. I don't see the Texans having a better record than the Cowboys at all if we get the right coaching in tact.
