  1. I have a friend that did some work in the past for Section 8 housing. Boy, could I tell you stories. Bottom line is that I have no sympathy for the Section 8 dwellers.

  2. Manor and Elgin, are a little far out of Austin.

Lots of people live in Manor and work in Austin. Elgin might be a little too far out but not Manor. I think the benefits of living in Manor would outweigh the hassle of Austin.

  3. Houston is the largest blue-collar town in Texas, Trae. It's dominated by service-industry jobs and its much larger than San Antonio. For every person in Houston with a college degree, there's got to be at least five people without one. I have a friend in Houston who was born and raised there and never bothered to go to college because he could make a decent living for himself without one in Houston. In contrast, I would consider Austin to be a white-collar dominated town. Same problems as Houston but Austin has a very dominant tech industry.

Ethanra, the term "blue collar" really does not have anything to do with how much money people make. I've known several multimillionaires from blue collar backgrounds. Some engineering fields I would consider to be blue collar just from the work environment and the type of people that it attracts, i.e. hands on types.

The Houston Superspeedway would've been a joke, Trae. Superspeedways are the most boring races on the NASCAR circuit, and there's only two of them. They are not popular enough with the fans to warrant building another one. As far as Jeebus' idiotic statements on NASCAR, if it's so redneck, then how come the speedway out in California usually sold out? What about the road course in Napa Valley they race out? It's sold out as well and I doubt there's many rednecks that go to that race.

What about all the corporate officers in the suites at the races, Jeebus? Are you going to declare MBA holders who worked hard to make it in the corporate world "white trash rednecks"? What about the crew chiefs who make $400,000 a year and know exactly how air temperature affects the handling of the race car and all the mathematics of the car components? Are they rednecks, too? I'd imagine that they have more expertise in their field than you do in yours, Jeebus.

Trae, most NASCAR tracks already have in-field road courses, and there's no landscaping at all. Why would they put in landscaping between two race tracks, anyway? Jeebus isn't the smartest tool in the shed it appears. That's probably why he feels the need to insult others so he can feel "classy."

  4. You're right, Trae. That's why the Toyota plant was such a big deal in San Antonio. Even if I wanted to live in San Antonio I'd be hard pressed to find something in my career path. UTSA is a commuter school so I seriously doubt a Division I football team would do it any good. They need to focus on the academics there, not sports. It's just a satellite campus for CAP students.

  5. I think I'll like to live in the Manor or Elgin areas, Anyone knows how's the commute at rush hour in 290 going towards Downtown Houston..?? or will be better to live in Georgetown or Round Rock areas..??

I would pick Manor and Elgin over Georgetown and Round Rock anyday. Georgetown has the rudest people I have ever met in Texas. I still have some acquaintances in Georgetown, but I get tired of being honked at for no reason and poor customer service at the businesses there, so I tend to avoid it entirely. I've known a few people who worked in Georgetown but lived in Round Rock for the same reasons. Elgin also has an excellent BBQ restaurant.

You might also consider Marble Falls if you can swing the commute to Austin. The property taxes in Austin are pretty high so you might not want a house in Austin, anyway.

  6. Do NOT do any major repairs to the property unless they are absolutely necessary, i.e. do not do a bunch of electrical work to the place. I've seen too many flippers who take on too much in their projects and end up losing money.

I think the others on here will agree with me that the most important work involved with flipping is done BEFORE you buy the house.

  7. I don't really see it happening. The Dallas Stars aren't hugely popular outside of Dallas, and their popularity is more of a Texas pride issue than a love for Hockey. Houston is just way too south to create a genuine interest in hockey, I think. You don't have very many kids in Texas who grew up around hockey like you do up north.

  8. Jeebus, you're not showing any class at all by stereotyping a millions of people as "white trash rednecks," many of whom you've never even met or experienced. In fact, I seriously doubt you would ever say that comment in public, so it doesn't carry a lot of weight.

Houston is more blue-collar (as far as careers and environment go) than the other major cities in Texas, and the nicer parts such as Bellaire aren't much more prestigious, so I think you need to get off that high and mighty, wooden horse of yours. If you want to be classy, why aren't you complaining to the City of Houston about the massive crime spike in the past two years? Instead of actively doing something to prove that you have class, you try to prove it by insulting a group of people. That doesn't show that you have any class at all. In fact, right now I don't think you are much better than white trash rednecks.

As far as F1 goes, nobody in the States watches it because it is boring, "follow the leader" type racing. At least in NASCAR the cars will be beating and banging on each other for each position. Several race car drivers jumped ship from open wheel racing such as F1 and Indy over to NASCAR because the racing is better and it is also safer. F1 drivers aren't protected by roll cages, which is another reason why it's not too popular in the States. A NASCAR race at the short track in Bristol, Tennessee is more exciting than all the F1 races combined.

As far as the landscaping at race tracks, who cares? Nobody goes to race tracks to view the landscaping.

There will probably never be a NASCAR Cup sanctioned track in Houston simply because NASCAR is already running 36 races a year, the drivers do not want to race more than that, and nobody would want to give up its dates for a new track in Houston. The Texas Motor Speedway got into a lawsuit with NASCAR over its second date, so I doubt it will give it up for a speedway in Houston. The proposed Houston Superspeedway idea was dumb anyway since superspeedway is boring; short track racing is more exciting.
