Regrettably, Mr. Vales work at 11400 Memorial was razed this past Monday (9/22/2014).  Late last year, I attempted to buy this home with the intent to restore and sympathetically update it for use as my family home.  At the last minute, we lost out to a builder.  I don’t begrudge the sellers, owners of 47 years, as they saw the home as unsalvageable and were just trying to maximize their return.  This is a case of one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

The builder renovating the home next to me paid Centerpoint aproximately $500 to move the pole supporting the service tap to my home. Your experience may vary as this was the pole along our side property line and not the pole in the alley supporting the streets main lines.

Regardless, I suggest calling Centerpoint and speaking directly with the Service Consultant covering the Heights. He can tell you quickly whether or not what you propose is feasible. These guys are in the field all day so expect to leave a message and they'll likely return the call the following morning. To get his number I'd skip the customer service line and call the builder service number.

Great news. When traveling in known Steak 'n Shake territory (central US) I have been known to plan meals around nearby, and not so nearby, locations. Another old location in Houston was on Westheimer at Bering. The building was razed circa 1980 and eventually replaced with the current James Coney Island.
