From the HC Criminal Courthouse 10/14/15. Well, I tried to post a picture taken of Hardy Yards and Warehouse District the other day...

I think the monorail idea was part of the original Houston Center development plan, and was abandoned decades ago.
The people mover was part of Texas Eastern's Houston Center vision -- a city within a city. People would drive directly from freeways to parking garages and use the people mover (above ground) to get to their office and other buildings. Part of the plan: turn your back to the street -- who wanted to be there? So 1, 2, 3, 4 Houston Center have little street presence. The people mover was planned, in part, to help people move around the 74-acre site without having to go to street level.
Then Panhandle purchased Texas Eastern, and the future plans went away.

7-story garage to be built no matter what. When they choose to move forward with the office tower, they'll add floors to the garage.

Total definitely is still there.
And will have a new amenity.

I keep wondering when they're going to give it a real name. "Block 334." Really?

Anyone have any idea of the average lease rate/sf they're expecting now? Their website doesn't say. They've got a marketing office in Greenstreet, but I haven't stopped by there yet.

They keep changing the map and the link.. the most current is on www.downtownhouston.org, under maps.

Sky connections. Thanks! I was wondering about that, too.

There is an effort underway to put radio and cell signal in the tunnel system, but I don't know when it'll be installed. Has been discussed for years, but HPD jump-started it. Cell service is good and bad, the bad part being that downtown needs more people walking at street level!

The downtown Above & Below (tunnel) map is posted on the downtown information website, www.downtownhouston.org, under Maps. There's also a downtown Google map you can link to from there.

Isn't today the day for their announcement of the new campus?

Would you want your company computer monitor facing the general public?

Interior renderings, if anyone is interested:
Isn't that a LOT of green?

Taxes are paid up, and owner feels it's worth more than anyone is willing to pay. Only covers 1/4 of the block, and very difficult to convert it to anything, and expensive to tear it down.

RRI Energy, located in 1000 Main, is merging with Atlanta-based Mirant. The combined company, to be named GenOn, will be headquartered in Houston.

That's the problem. The cross causes some confusion. St Joseph is no longer affiliated to the Catholic Church. It's been bought by Hospital Patners of America, a struggling hospital group that also owns River Oaks Hospital (formerly Twelve Oaks) and pockets of hospitals in Austin and one of the Carolinas.
The Sisters sold hospital, yes, but the hospital/HPA doesn't even own that building.

All of a sudden it seems that a bunch of the Kirby Lofts units are filled. They must not have been sold, but rented/leased. What's up?
-
That's a drilling truck, and the resevoire is to pump water into the ground as they drill to soften the soil. It's also designed to pump water to the drill bits to keep them cool.
Does the fact that the truck/equipment (soil testing?) is there mean construction is imminent? Or does this sort of thing happen, and then nothing for months?

"I have one question ... wasn't the Rice redeveloped into condos? That wasn't exactly 4 decades ago."
The Rice is still rental.

The LandCo deal went away a couple of years ago.

The Plaza and Peacock Apartments are across the street from Root Memorial Square.

This building has a lot of lawyer's offices on the ground floor. Was it a hotel at one time? I think it had a bar or comedy club as a tenent at one time. I think the building has a clever name now.
By referring to McDonald's, do you mean the former McDonald's on Texas at Main Street, the McDonald's in the tunnel system, or the one at street level in the HPD building?

They know the options...word gets around really fast, and they help each other. Way back when, I even heard one guy giving another guy the current code to get into the men's restroom at Macy's.
