So looks like something might happen in April after all...
On my daily bike commute today spied some action on the plot. They have erected a construction trailer/storage shed on one corner (I was too late to work to investigate in depth!). In addition, they have erected some strange scaffolding?? stuff that reach like 40-50ft into the air. There is also a new temporary fence erected around all of that. Perhaps some preparations for an upcoming groundbreaking??? Maybe someone else can shed some more light.

Just to add to the comments above...
I live in a townhome with a roof top deck. After a few months of moving in, I noticed a leak around the roof's drain, underneath on the third floor. Since then it has been a complete nightmare trying to chase down my builder to repair the problem. They initially tried several patch up solutions. Everytime they came back and made a repair, I was content thinking that would be the end of it. Now, 2 years later, after months of frustration, legal action, and hours of lost time, I have finally motivated the builder to tear up the whole terrace and add a metal liner and tar underneath a new set of roof tiles. Fingers crossed, so far, this seems to have solved the problem.
Now I am not the only one with this problem, and have since discovered from other neighbors and surrounding townhomes that they too had similar problems. The lesson is get a builder who has experience with projects involving such roof top terraces, and get an inspector that knows what to look for. In retrospect though, even though I had an inspector, I guess he had no way of checking what was underneath the tiles on the terrace, or confirming how it was constructed. Probably would be wise to inquire directly about the construction from the builder, or better yet, observe that part of the construction.
Despite all these nightmares though, if this repair finally holds up, I love the terrace. It is great for reading and lounging around. Just make sure you ask the right questions at time of purchase so that you don't have to go through all the stress I had to endure.

Thanks for sharing that...It's nice to see some positive publicity for the old Taub once in a while

So this aired at 9.30p today on CBS KHOU...I missed it. Did anyone see it? They have an associated story on KHOU.COM website I linked below...No real new information, just seems to be an extension of what was put in the chronicle. I hope they post the video soon. Interestingly, it is under the section "special advertising" on the KHOU.COM website. Not completely sure why that is. The medical center just continues to amaze me.

Moderator, I think this is a duplicate thread, unless this is ultimately going to be devoted to only the west side expansion plans. From above though it seems like all three projects are addressed.

Found this today while in the med center. Love the design of the neurological institute. The maternity center rendering looks updated as well. They also comment in the attached article that Fiegin center is already topped out and shoule be ready by fall 2008. The Maternity center site was cleared with the recent crown plaza implosion, and groundbreaking is scheduled for January 31, 2008. They say it will take 7 months to dig the hole beneath the bulding, and then another 7 months to build to street level! I did not realize it took that long to put in foundations for such buildings. The neurological institute groundbreaking is December 11, 2007. There will be a 2 story underground garage in that one.

Now CNN is covering this too. I think its the same video that KHOU broadcast recorded from St Luke O'Quin Towers.

I jog by this site almost daily and the fence was removed from the perimeter about 2 months ago.
I noticed recently though the demolition of the properties on the northern edge of the land. The house on the northwest corner was demolished like more than 2 months ago. The one on the northeast corner looks like it is being prepared for demolition (its on like cinder blocks and has been emptied). I dont know if this is related to impending museum construction, or whether its related to another townhome developer moving in on prime property neighboring the future museum-- the fate of majority of old houses it seems in this neighborhood. Does anyone know whether the Asia houses northern border goes all the way to the road, including the land these houses currently occupy?
I have also begun to wonder what the fate of the beautiful solitary house on the Southwest corner of the Asia House property along Caroline st and Oakdale st (Not sure of street name) might be. Unlike the other two houses described above, this one seems inhabited and with a very well maintained garden, but very vulnerable with the museum surrounding it.

Hello Everyone!
After months of lurking, I felt it was finally time to make a meaningful contribution! Today I attended a meeting at BCM that detailed some of the perliminary plans for the Parkwood hospital. Here's what was revealed.
Clinic-
242k gross sq ft
Planned 300 faculty
Hospital, Phase One-
415k gross sq ft
256 beds
all private rooms, 16 VIP
Diagnostic and Therapuetic
227k gross sq ft
17 ORs
30 ambulatory treatment rooms
30 ambulatory 23 hr stay rooms
Faculty Offices (the existing factuly center on Fannin that BCM leases will be vacated eventually)
199k gross sq ft
300 offices with support space
Research and education 19k gross sq feet
Parking
2000 spaces underground
Projected completion summer 2010
no trauma center, only adult emergency services
everything except pediatrics, obstetrics (both at TCH), psychiatry and intense rehabilitation services will be relocated here
It is still in the very preliminary stages of planning. A lot is subject to change. I think the plan is to break ground sometime in the summer hopefully this year. A fundraising capital campaign of $1billion is now in progress to help with the financing of the new hospital.
Attached are two scans of a flyer that was given. I am very excited about this project. A non-profit academic hospital is something the TMC is lacking. Most major medical centers are anchored by a strong academic hospital.
I'll let you know if I hear anything else!

Anyone familiar with this developers work? Construction seems pretty solid. And anyone have any more info about building planned for adjacent plot? Do you guys think $345/ ft is too much for this area?
