  1. Public Hearing November 8 @ 2:30PM for a 64 Unit La Quinta Inn at Hwy 59 between McGowen & Dennis. This is on the 'other' side of 59/288 which seems to be a good signal on development, IMO. It also adds a much needed moderate priced hotel to the general DT vicinity, which is currently limited to the Holiday Inn Express and the Best Western on W. Dallas, which both still get rather pricey given the locations... http://maps.yahoo.com/#mvt=h&trf=0&amp...39545&mag=1
  2. The other link is down but this lists currently signed tenants if this is the one you are looking at... http://www.midtownshoppes.com/
  3. So what were the name and badge #?
  4. Any ideas how the intersections of the lines will work? I'm specifically thinking of Rusk at Main downtown or Richmond @ Main in Midtown.... these just feel like traffic nightmares waiting to happen.
  5. I would tend to agree with you, but how do you enforce it is the issue? If they don't, you revoke the license? People still do, and will continue to drive without a valid license.
  6. Hmm.... wish I had known sooner. Will have to look to the calendar more often for the next one.
  7. He asked about break-ins and other crime in the area... I was using it as a comparison. I can throw out the fact that my apartment complex in South Minneapolis had warnings weekly because of another break-in, but it's not the same type of neighborhood. I was simply stating what our reality had been in these types of areas, which is to say there is some minor crime, you may be a victim, you may not... move along.
  8. I've lived in midtown for about 4.5 years after relocating here. I lived in the Camden for 3 years and absolutely no problems (i.e. breakins, etc.) CSOM gal had problems with 2 car break-ins in Uptown Dallas during the same time I lived in the Camden, FWIW... I now own on the east side of midtown and I still haven't had any problems. There are some minor crime problems I hear about in the neighborhoods to cars, homes, apts, but no more than any other major city I've been in. You will read about crime on some streets in the center of midtown, but there's no residential there, and no real reason to be out walking through those areas. I don't see that price range being a problem, so good luck! PM me if you want anymore detail.
  9. It is the exact same style of font, color, etc. I think the only difference is that the standard midtown sign font is bolded, and this one is regular (it just appears a bit thinner)
  10. You sure it was for construction and not prepping for the Race for the Cure Saturday morning? I was at the Doubletree today and didn't really notice anything... (BTW - don't park at the 1100 Smith garage, even on business... $30 all day and they don't accept Credit Cards...)
  11. I'm pretty handy, but never had much reason to do much handy as I grew up in a new construction house. Now - we have a solid-wood front door that was painted over at one point. We'd like to do something different with it, either stain or wood... the question is, is it better (or even possible) to strip the paint and basically start over with it? Second question - we have a fireplace in the house, that we'd like to use during the 6 cold weeks in Jan-Feb, but when we had the house inspected, the general contractor said it looked like it had never been used. We would like to have a fireplace expert check it out and generally show us how to use it (I have never had one before...) Any suggestions on a fireplace contractor?
  12. The Days Inn has some scaffolding around it right now on the sidewalk... good news or catching falling debris?
  13. I sent a note both to the Mayor's email address (as listed on the City's website... so his filtered checked by someone else inbox) and the Midtown Management district stating my concern as a resident and property owner, and cited both this thread and the KTRK report... so far no response. Not shocking. Anyone else have any other suggestions or ideas to get the city to wake up on this?
  14. Truck is gone today. No movement on the property at all. Same as has been.
  15. I'm one of the ~25 that didn't have my brass plate stolen. I hadn't heard about the sprinkler thefts, nor I have I had any problems with drugs or prostitution in our area specifically.
  16. As a MT resident, if anyone hears of this Midtown Town Hall they referred to in the article, please share the info with the rest of us. Luckily the shelter on the corner of Tuam and Crawford is never a problem, and Baldwin Park is mostly ok, but that center section of midtown by Rich's and the underpass at Pierce Elevated and Caroline/Crawford/San Jac, along with the McDonalds/Greyhound area need some serious work.
  17. No - the Omni is a conversion right across from the Hyatt. The Texaco building was rumored as a Ritz Carlton once upon a time, which is why I mentioned it. Now this project is another high end, but now 5 star, hotel, that may be new construction in downtown,
  18. Sounds an awful lot like the old Texaco building may get a dust off here...
  19. Saw this Saturday night while sitting out on the patio at the Tipsy Clover in midtown... seemed like a genius idea.
  20. These are great... the progress is really coming along. I never believed the building would've been used for anything else. I used to use that shop for my car until one day when I brought it in about a week or two having my tires rotated and balanced... The guy drives it and tells me the balance and rotation is all out of whack and I need to get it done. I told him I just had it done, he said I should take it back and have them redo it. When I told him he did it, he didn't say anything and refused to call me back whenever I tried to schedule the "redo" he suggested. What is the plan for next door where Don Jacobsen auto's and that little orange building used to be?
  21. Nice Ricco... Not sure that you remember you were in a thread on this back in December/January Link, but that's ok They originally speculated May as opening, but obviously didn't happen... making a lot of progress when I go by now, and will clean up that corner, which is nice. Also, next door there is a sign stating Louisiana/Hadley crossing for variance request, not sure if something else is going up next to it & Pub Fiction, but looking forward to it anyway. FTW - It will be here Google Maps The long white building in the middle will be Howl. The rectangle to the left on Smith is Pub Fiction.
  22. Throw my $.02 in on this one... On musicman's side, I agree there is a big difference between Great and Rubbish... It is a nice new parking garage, taking open land, with retail available, but a better facade and a better location wouldn't be a bad thing. But, with GovernorAggie, no way this thing is complete, it looks sooo raw yet. As for great parking garages, how about floors 2-9 of Two Shell Plaza, all parking garage, no idea from street level.
  23. Well, it is more "open" than it was a few months ago... I think a wall fell in, not sure. Anyway, as I've said before I won't believe the Collective is going up until I see some signs of construction. I will hope for at least demo to at least clear out the old garage... Side note, what is the 2950 Jackson Street little warehouse across Crawford anyway? Any ideas? It's open from time to time and seems like a chop shop of some sort, and I see it has some new graffitti.... wonderful. Would be a great place for a little park side walk up deli/cafe...
  24. My personal preferene would be street front mid-rise apartment living with neighborhood amenties/retail/dining on street level, similar to wrigleyville like someone previously mentioned.
  25. I thought they only owned the next block west on Gray.
