OMG. My youngest brother had her in '65-'66. My other brother was a year ahead of him.

Ashikaga, where did you live in Park Place? We lived off of Old Galveston Road and my grandparents lived on Easton.

Does anybody know if the Old Chuck Wagon still exists in Park Place? And for shopping centers--is Palm Center still around?

And y'all were talking about Playhouse Toys-does anyone remember the one at Gulfgate? It had a giant giraffe head over the stairs that led down to the ground floor. I still dream about that wing of Gulfgate and that giraffe, no clue why.

Palm Center still exist but does not have retail. It is more of a business park, with clinics, social services and Urban Harvest has a community Garden there

Houston Jewelry is the same as it was downtown in the 50's & 60's....jewelry & gifts....before they built the big store out at the end of town at westheimer and gessner when it was just ranch land in the early 70's

Bain & Co....Romney's company was involved in the purchase of United Jewelers from Gordon's Jewelers in the mid 1980's after it was spun off by Bain it failed a few years later and Service took a few of their locations

not a weird name when your last name is Weiner.....they were/are super super nice people...

Joske's did not have a Meyerland location. The large stores there were Meyer Bros, Walter Pyes [which is now Pinto Ranch....] Palais Royal and JC Penny's. Woolworths and a grocery store....

Ahhh. Houston Jewelry. Service Merchandise took its place (at least the Gessner and Westheimer location). I remember how you would have to fill out a ticket and go to this weird desk to actually purchase the items. No shopping carts or stock was on the floor; it was all "showroom".

I think the Wyatt's in 3rd Ward was the last one to close. My dad used to be the Manager of the one in Westwood Mall in Alief in the 80's

Weiners and their famous law-a-way. I used to go to the one in Hiram Clarke and the one off Southwest Freeway 59 and Fondren near the ,also defunct, Loehmanns.

  4. Anyone have photos of memories of Westbury Square? I have great memories of the fountain, a theater my mom used to take us to see plays for children and an ice cream/candy shop. Unfortunately, all of my family photos were accidentally lost during a move back in the early 80's.

  5. ALL of my aunts used to go to the Rinestone rangler. It was a very popular night club. I do not think there was a club in that spot previous to the Rinestone rangler opening. It was a mostly young, Black R7B Funk music club. I was too young to go but remember thinking "When I grow up, Im going to the Rangler". By the time I ws old enough, it closed down.
