Most phone exchange names, nationally and in Houston, were two syllable words. Easy to say and remember, I guess. No other particular reason that Jackson was chosen. Just looking around online, I found two local businesses with Jackson numbers in an ad from 1944.

Here's an image from a 1951 Houston Buffs scorecard with a Jackson number. BTW, if you remember glass jalousies, you're officially old. :)

Isn't it funny what we remember? My home phone # growing up was OV-7667. I can barely remember my mobile number.

Golf ranges seem to have been a popular use for large tracts of vacant land.  When I first moved to Westchase 20-ish years ago there were at least four that I can think of off the top of my head between Wilcrest and hwy 6. Plus two par 3 courses.

There's one off Clay Road in Sitting Branch that's bring converted to 100s of houses. I can't imagine the impact on those roads and schools.

They're redoing the intersections along the MKT trail to add the street name in the concrete on each side of the street and remove the bollards in the center of the trail. Looked about halfway done earlier today and the finished ones looked great, it's a nice design for improving wayfinding for people using the trail.

I ran by these Wed as they were installing b more names. They look great.
