  1. We saw that as well (I had some pictures myself, but yours cover everything we saw).  I was wondering about those bridge pieces as well.  They don't really make a lot of sense for crossing 59 itself.  It looks more like something to bridge across the bayou.  On the map, I see that is a utility corridor that runs south from that junction of 59 and the bayou trail.  Maybe a trail to run south through that utility corridor?

I drive south on the Beltway in the afternoons coming home from work and I've seen no sign of trail development yet for that section of Brays Bayou yet.

Between this and Fluor's announcement that they are leaving their long time Suglarland location for the Energy Corridor, those are a couple of big relocations for Houston's energy related businesses.  Bechtel leaving their Uptown area location to move out to the westside is another sizeable one.

I thought this bit of the article was particularly interesting:

    Quote

“The decision (to move to Williams Tower) is due to the company’s new office work landscape, which has changed dramatically over the past few years ― including the adoption of a more flexible work policy,” a Lyondell spokesperson said in a statement.

The company, which had more than $50 billion in revenue last year, adopted a hybrid workplace strategy in 2021, and now allows employees to work remotely three days a week.

I wonder if we'll see more of this.

  3. The current proposal for the latest widening of 518 is supposed to include a bike lane.  It's getting lots of push back.  Honestly, as someone who lives down here and does enjoy biking in the area, I think trying to put a bike lane on 518 would be a terrible idea.  There are cutouts to shopping centers all along the way.  It would be akin to putting a bike lane on Westheimer between 610 and the Beltway.  I think they'd have a better chance with running bike lanes on Hughes Ranch to the north and Magnolia to the south and run N/S lanes along Cr 90, 94, 1128 and such to create connections to 518.

There is a recently added multi-use wide sidewalk along the newly widened Bailey Rd (CR 101).  The Clear Creek trail project is supposed to be about 21 miles of multi use trail from Dixie Farm around to I think Almeda.  There are parts of it in place, but that's a decade long project.

I want to correct something I said above - I unfairly maligned Manvel.

It was Iowa Colony - blip on Highway 288 just south of Manvel that was the speedtrap,  not Manvel.      I apologize to all of the Manvellians out there.

Pretty sure Iowa Colony still is largely a speed trap, though Meridiana and the new Iowa Colongy high school are starting to change that.

  5. I used to work in these buildings.  Originally Foster Wheeler's back in the 80's before S&B bought them.

We moved out to a new location in the energy corridor just before the pandemic.   Owners had plans to redevelop the site, but I think the whole pandemic lead them to put the property up for sale instead.  Word was there was about to be a sale a few months ago, but it's apparently fallen through.
