I'm starting to think we're the only one's that remember Farrell's. I'm really surprise because there was usually a line to get in. I had a birthday there once and they made a really big deal to make noise with drums and whistles and singing for my birthday. I had never had that much attention in public in my entire life. Farrell's made me feel special that day!

Rock candy of every color! That was soooo cooool when I was a kid! I had forgotten about that place with good pizza, ice cream, and a candy shop out of any kid's dreams! Cool one Enviromain.

MOUNTAIN PARK was a place for kids...built on an artificial hill. It was right on the corner of 1-10 and 610...just about a mile south of Northwest Mall. Anyone else remember?

Nope, but I do remember the artificial ski mountain some crazy person or company made that was located near the intersection of 610 and Hwy 59S. I couldn't believe they would actually believe the ice would not melt! Hello? Texas heat! Funny.

I agree, but a lot of people here are saying "THE EL Capitan". Which is repetitive, needless and unnecessarily redundant.

Just the same, the theater's name on its signage and in common usage was "Capitan". Not "El Capitan".

Why do you always stir up trouble? If you haven't noticed, Houston has a lot of Spanish heritage. There are ways to express your opinion without insulting others. Be nice, for goodness sake FilioScotia! This is an educational and productive forum for nice people. Without courtesy to others this cannot work!

Sorry, was just trying to help you. I wasn't trying to discredit anyone. I just hit search images and this is what I got. And yes, I made a mistake in the past and wrote an apology to the webmaster. I can't help it if your friends photos are in a search engine. Maybe you should be mad at the image search engines.

Does anybody here attend the church in reference? It is now United, but when I was baptised there it was pretty basic. I noticed a building in the area of the former playground where we played. I was baptised in 1970. Was in MYF and sang in the chior. I have so many memories connected to this church.

Isn't that right down from St. Paul Presbyterian? Used to play basketball there after they rebuilt the courts.

I was at the Hobby airport several days ago, and when I stopped at the Wendy's fast food place in the central concourse there, I saw a framed large black and white photo of what looks like an old Wendy's restaurant hanging there. (It is on the side wall to your right when you face the counter for ordering.) It looks like it was taken in the 70's, judging from the cars in the photo.

Haven't been into the Wendy's you are referring to, but I remember when Wendy's came to Houston. The one in Sharpstown opened in the 1970's and promoted 100% Beef hamburgers. It was located in the fast food strip on Fondren between SW Freway and Bellaire Blvd. Also included there was Jack in the Box, McDonald's, & Burger King.

This double-decker bus was built in 1946. This bus was originally named No.13 (JK 9111). It was rebuilt to an open-top version in 1961; was withdrawn before entering service in the season of 1968; sold to the Royal Coach Inn in Houston, Texas. It was painted red when Royal Coach Inn obtained it and then painted cream in 1969

Body: Originally East Lancs H56R double-deck bus bodies, rebuilt in the Corporation workshops in 1961-63 to Open-top O30/26R. Numbered in the third series of these double-decker buses, this was made from an batch of six.

The hotel was the Royal Coach, "affectionately" nicknamed the Royal Roach by those of us attending various sci-fi/comic conventions there in its waning years. Some of those suckers could have entered the costume contest.

I visited the abondoned facility at least once, probably in the 1983-1985 time period but possibly earlier. The "bowls" were of course filled with dirty water, debris, and shopping carts.

I'm white. I don't remember Johnny Reb, but I graduated in 82. We (Sharpstown HS) played the Rebels in basketball twice every year, and I actually attended Westbury for a brief period of time. My black friend (pc - african american) informed me of insinuations I wasn't aware of that related to that flag. That notion or facts made me sick. I understood and understand the intial meaning of the flag, just not the eventual or double meaning that apparently was established.

Yes, my friend discussed and myself are still best friends and will be for life.

Does anyone remember the skateboard park off of Richmond and Fondren? I think it was built during the late 70's and eventually closed down. What a park! We had a blast using the old fashioned skateboards there (unlike the long ones they make now). That was the first time I ever used pads and helmet.

Did we forget the Houston Music Theatre in Sharpstown. Elvis, Bob Hope, The Osmonds, and more performed there during the 1970's. I don't remember when it was built. The performers used to stay at a hotel down Hwy. 59 that looked like a castle. Royal Hotel or something like that. This was the area I grew up in during the 70's so the local talk was all about the stars performing and staying at that hotel.

Went there in 1983 for a while. It was a cool school! I heard it went down hill eventually. Don't know for sure.
