WHere was it? I know it only was around for about a year and a half but does anyone know anything more about it?

The small town I grew up in had some very old phone switching equipment until about 1992 or 1993. Every phone in town was in the same exchange, so the way we dialed local calls was by just dialing the last five digits. If you dialed all seven digits for a local call, the call would not connect because the equipment was set up with every line on the same exchange. For example, my home number was 283-5968 and Dad's work number was 283-2231. To dial him at work from the house, you'd just dial 32231. Touch tone phones would also not work on that system -- just about everyone had the old rotary dial phones (Dad's store still has one that they still use!) or a push button phone set to the pulse setting. After SBC installed new phone switching equipment shortly after I graduated high school, touch tone phones could be used, and you were forced to dial the 2 and 8 for local calls. It took a long time for many people to break the habit of not dialing those two numbers.
What town was that?
If you remember in the Godfather, Michael calls home after his dad was shot by asking for "Long Beach" and a number.

When I was downtown last week, it seemed all the Jones Plaza entrances were taped off. Now they seemed to be cleaning but I wasn't sure if this was just for cleaning, or for some other reason. Is something going on here? Will Party On The Plaza return or has it been swallowed by The Main Event?

Pangea closed, building is starting to come down it seems (partly on its own) fence up around the property. Anyone know what is planned for that space?

I don't think Cordish has been entirely to blame, and they have a good track record in other cities. It just seems to me that Bayou Place has struggled for a real identity, isn't well marketed to the public, and business owners have been reluctant to open new concepts there to attract people.
Well, sounds like most of that is the fault of Cordish.

As Bayou Place seems to be dying some I was thinking of possibly some concepts that might help...
Joe's Crab Shack or Cadillac Bar maybe...
Hooters
House of Blues
Rick's Cabaret
a country/western club maybe
Then add some shopping in to that mix if they can or an art gallery or two...
any other ideas?

Marqee Plaza to downtown? Don't we have Bayou Place? just need to work on filling that up.

Anyone know whats going on at that lot? It seems like its getting torn down and something else going up in its place. I always thought they needed to do a lot of work on the exterior of that place.

Anyone heard of Epsom Downs from Houston or Texas's history? If so, where was this place? Was it just horse racing or what?

Anyone have info or pictures on what the (now extinct) APC building was supposed to look like if it had ever been completed as planned?

I'd like to see a bio-dome like project. Maybe the Houstonian could buy it, put in some mountain bike trails, climbing walls, jungle scape...
What about a homeless shelter?

There is a Fox Sports Grill in Galleria 3 now.

I heard that the Finger Companies had the building and were going to convert it to apartments... not sure if thats current or dead...

Great location, bad bar. However, watch it be open this weekend... it seems to be open & closed, open & closed more times than I can count. One week, it was closed and seized for taxes, the next week it was open. I wonder where that cute bartender went though that was always there...
-
There used to be only one or two stands for the ices in the Dome.
-
Construction is scheduled to start within the next couple of weeks. I think their goal is to be open by Early March.
Best of luck to them!

Doesn't help that the place is a dump.
-
Just a note, high school football is still played in the Dome. And Friday Night Lights was filmed there. However, I think it should be a parking garage.
-
Anyone tried it out? Its on Travis next to Escobar.

Is that movable? It looked like a permanent building, not an actual dinning car...
This is what I said in another thread...
Deco Diner... did it even open? It was close to opening... I think they should have made it bigger - like double sized... they had the space. I don't think with the space inside they had that they could have made enough money to cover their building and rent. Could make for a cute boutique shop though you'd have to tear out the booths or something.

Sidelines always seemed like it wasn't quite right... is it a lounge? Or a sports bar? or what? That location has potential, in my opinion.
-
I looked in to the window of that location today and it doesn't seem like they have done any work. I know the bar business isn't easy but so far it doesn't look like they have made progress. Hopefully soon.

What music would you like to hear? There are several local dj's with talent around town but sometimes they are constrained by the club owner on what they can/can't play based on the crowd or other reasons.
