  1. It was only the biggest and most hyped game of the season, so it is no surprise that it is the highest rated.

Yeah, I was at the game and thought we had them in the 3rd quarter when we were up 24-21. Hopefully we will see them again in Arizona.

  2. Interesting article about the rating last Sunday. Are there still that many Cowboy fans in Houston?

Cowboys-Patriots a big hit on CBS

Sunday's Dallas Cowboys-New England Patriots game was the highest-rated regular-season game on CBS since the network reacquired NFL rights in 1998, according to preliminary ratings released Monday.

The game scored an 18.5 rating in the 56 largest TV markets across the country. Final national ratings will be available Tuesday.

The previous record for a CBS game was a 16.9 on Dec. 6, 1998, when the Denver Broncos extended their unbeaten record to 13-0 by defeating the Kansas City Chiefs, 35-31.

Thus far this season, the Cowboys have played in the highest-rated game on CBS, NBC and ESPN. Their victory over the Bills on ESPN last Monday night was the highest-rated program on cable all season.

Dallas-Fort Worth produced the highest ratings for the Cowboys-Patriots, narrowly topping the Boston market, 37.0 to 36.5.

In Houston, the Cowboys-Patriots pulled a 17.5 rating in the second game of a doubleheader, topping the hometown Texans-Jacksonville Jaguars noon game, which earned a 16.7.

  3. I don't know the history behind this MetroRail plan. Why were the plans cancelled? Are there any current plans to expand Metro? I've always thought it was interesting that Houston is so far behind many other major cities when it comes to light rail.

  4. I doubt Glorypark would make it a year-round destination. Glorypark looks nothing more than that one center in Garland, or the Southlake Town Center. I think it will just attract people in the immediate area.

Exactly, with shopping, hotels and restaurants it will be a year-round destination not only for Arlington residents but for folks all around DFW and the state of Texas. I don't live in Southlake but I visit their town during the holidays to see the Town Center decorated. Also, Holiday in the Park at Six Flags is a lot of fun.

  5. Thanks slfunk. I read the same article about the transit service in Arlington this morning. I think light rail will eventually go through Arlington and most likely run parallel with division street which is only 2 blocks away from Jerry World and the Rangers Ballpark (or whatever its called today).

If you want to find out more about the T expansion, check out this website.

This will link the T to Dart, or vice versa, by way of an intermodal station at DFW airport. Its still about 6-8 years out.

  6. Wow. I thought Phase II had already started construction. This looks like a fluff press release to try to boost sales. Notice that they don't specify a date for ground breaking or even a month, just "soon," and then proceed to recite all of the superlatives they can come up with regarding the project...

Actually they are just finishing up the Hotel. It should be open within the next 2 months. Ground breaking has already started. The base or hole is almost complete but they are waiting for a crane. This is an ongoing problem with all of the new buildings going up in Dallas. They are out of cranes.

  7. Of course, with the New Cowboys 1B stadium going up, that's a pretty major accomplishment. And I think the population estimate is over 400K now. Arlington stubbornly refuses to jump on the mass transit train. They belong neither to DART nor the "T". They will live to regret that decision.

Actually, there are plans to bring rail out to Arlington. Arlington will put the idea on a ballot within the next year. The "T" is expanding from DT Fort Worth to the north side DFW airport to hook up with the Dart which is priority one. Meanwhile they already have plans for a temporary stop along the UP line south of stadium off division street.

"Council of Governments officials said they would continue to look at light rail regionally and would negotiate for use of a Union Pacific rail line through Arlington for Super Bowl use.

Mr. Staubach told media members this week that "there will be rail access out to Arlington, supposedly, by the time this happens," he said.

  8. I notice that you didn't even give facts to back up your comments.

Yeah, I figured someone would point that out. As I said before the Arts Distict is transforming into a unique, upscale place to live in dtd. If you look at the infrastructure being built in the Arts District and the money behind the progress, it should create momentum for sales of this tower. This is similar to the Victory development except the Arts District appeals to a differrent group of people.

Here are some of the projects already under construction.

    1. Wyly Theatre

    2. Winspear Opera House

    3. Hunt Corp Headquarters Tower (Across from the Dallas Museum of Art)

    4. One Arts Plaza - 3 more buildings pending as part of the master plan

    Existing Structures/facilities

    1. Anette Strauss Artist Square

    2. Belo Mansion

    3. Dallas black dance theater

    4. Arts District Theater

    5. Dallas Museum of Art

    6. Dallas Symphony Center

    7. Nasher Sculpture Center

  9. Why is it that when the Dallas area announces a 42 story highrise, people on this post automatically start saying it won't be built? The skeptics don't even give facts to back up their comments which seems a little childish. In my opinion, its seems to be a Dallas vs Houston thing... I've been watching the Austin threads and no one has negative posts about their "proposed" 40 story condos..

I believe this one will be built. The Arts Distict will be a unique, upscale place to live in dtd. Btw, does anyone have an extra 1 million dollars I can borrow?
