  1. Anyone here know of any great breakfast places in the northwest area. My wife and I are always looking for hidden gems. We need to find more of the non-IHOP/Denny's type places. I was disappointed to learn that the Cypress Station Grill won't be serving breakfast.

We go to the 59 Diner at Willowbrook occasionally, but more often than not end up going into Houston. Our favorites are Mama's, Barnaby's, and Backstreet Cafe.

I'm hoping some of the folks on here now of some great places that I just haven't run accross.

    Hole-in-the-walls are certainly welcome.

    jb's steakhouse on huffmeister.

  2. Yea, I saw that too. I am curious what is going to go in in the strip center next to IHOP. I have been waiting for someone to open a Pho place in this part of town. Maybe one will be going in there.

    Steve

FYI: There is a small Vietnamese restaurant on Barker Cypress @ Queenston that serves pho. I think it's called Mekong Grill.

  3. Ah, yes. It will be called The Cove. There will also be an elementary school site just a little further down NBLP.

They'd better start building that elementary school soon. Warner Elementary (where Bridgeland is now now zoned) opens in a few days and it already has 4 portable buildings! I've heard it is already 200 students over capacity. Unbelievable.

  4. I am interested in the community of Lakes of Fairhaven, which has no MUD taxes. The problem is I don't know what that means. Of course, I know that there isn't a MUD and one of the pros is that there are no MUD taxes. But, there's got to be a bunch of cons, right? Last summer when I visited one of the home builders in there, the sales lady said that instead of individual septic for each house, there was something else. Her vague explanation wasn't clear to me -- and since I'm ignorant about MUD and septic stuff and wasn't that serious about buying a new house at the time, I didn't press with any questions.

Anyway, now I'm interested again and need some information before visiting the sales people again. Please, can anyone explain some of the pros and cons of living in a community with no MUD? And what else is there, if not a MUD nor septic system??? Thank you.

  5. How funny that I caught this post. I just discovered Lily Allen on iTunes the other night and decided to buy her CD from Amazon, which I am waiting on now. I hope the whole album is as good as the samples I heard on iTunes. It's too bad I didn't learn about her performance tomorrow earlier. I would've made plans to check it out. What do you think of her music?

  6. Cold and wet. But my tropical plants are doing fine. Some of these are too big to move.

I know what you mean. My geraniums are thriving. A pleasant surprise.

  7. I haven't had an extremely awkward moment at work, but this happened to a good friend of mine.

She was talking with a male client about the project they were working on together. And at the end of the conversation, right before she hangs up with him, she says "I love you." I'm sure you all can relate to this automatic instinctive three-word sentence to your loved ones at the end of your phone conversation. It was hilarious! To this day, when I think about it, I laugh out loud.

  8. I would like to see a curbside recycling program implemented in our subdivision in the Northwest area (Cy-Fair). Can anyone here give me some information? I've been told by someone at our MUD that it would cost about $5 more per month, per address. But I find that hard to believe. There's got to be a large initial cost, right? Are there any state or federal grants for recycling initiations? Please, if you have info or advice on getting a recycling program started - I would appreciate it!

  9. Have you been to a Vietnamese wedding ceremony or reception? If yes, tell me about your experience and thoughts on it. If fact, it doesn't even have to be Vietnamese. If you've been to any Eastern ceromonies/receptions - chime in.

  10. Which developer was responsible for Longwood in Cypress? And is that developer doing anything else in the NW area? I like what they did with Longwood. If it weren't for the entrances on Huffmeister, Spring Cypress, and Grant, you would never know it's back there. All those tall trees and underbrush hides all the rooftops and actually makes the drive on those roads a little pleasant when passing by. And even inside, on Louetta, Wincrest (?), and Longwood Trace - it is very lush with greenery. Reminds me of the Woodlands.

  11. Hell, I remember Moby even before he came to Houston. He used to be a DJ on a radio station called 98 ROCK in the Tampa Bay area. I remember his last day there, as he was saying goodbye over the air, he said something about going to the land of ZZ Top or something. I was very young and never thought about it again. Then in '85 when I found myself here in this strange Houston place, there was Moby on the radio! It was kind of comforting to hear a familiar voice as Houston was very new and scary to me.

  12. I'm out here in Cypress and I keep hearing from friends and neighbors that a new mall is planned on 290, accross from Fairfield. That's about 5 or 6 exits farther than the 1960 exit. I don't know how these people know about it, but I was told it will be developed by the same people who developed the Woodlands and their mall. So I wonder if it's associated with Bridgeland, the new master-planned communty that's just opened up out here.

  13. What is your opinion on Tomball ISD? How is it better than Cy-Fair ISD? What does Cy-Fair have over Tomball? Can anybody give me some suggestions on researching the quality of these districts? Thanks for any help.
