  1. Well I can tell you one thing for sure: there will never be a Houston socialite up to her ears in an oil for food scandle by way of her hubby. I wonder if she and Oscar are footing any of their buddy Saddam's defense costs?

Anyway, besides her involvement with one of Saddam's enabelers, I nominate her as Houston's Most Anorexic Socialite. What a grand example to represent our city: "Oh looky! Theres Lynn Wyatt at the opera. I wonder if Saddam or Oscar gave her the jewels?"

Lynn is a strong woman with or without Oscar, even if he is in trouble with the U.S. government. There is nothing that she can't handle. "Have ya ever seen her at a party or dinner?", Lynn loves to eat! ; and she sure isnt going to let her husband's mishaps turn her into a scared recluse.

  2. Joanne Johnson King Herring Davis still outshines them all. I have read she is invited to almost every major event throughout the world and is always the center of attention at each event she attends.

Joanne King, pictured here in 2006, with Jane Curtin, Carolyn Farb, and Michelle Williams

Joanne has been around for a very long time, but she is just a regular compared to Lynn. Becca even said there will probably never be another socialite from Houston or Texas that has the celebrity and know status of Lynn Wyatt.

  3. Ima Hogg is the most famous deceased socialite, as by giving her huge mansion Bayou Bend to MFA. Lynn Wyatt is the reigning socialite and has been for the last 30 years, she is not only tops in Houston, but internationally as well. Who else in Houston could have their good friend Andy Warhol paint a picture of them? Anytime whether it be a newspaper in NYC or London when the word international or american socialite is mentioned Lynn Wyatt is defined. Lynn always knows how to be herself which is glamourous, fun, and always classy. Becca Cason Thrash often dubbed the next Wyatt, is just as spectacular , she knows how to throw a party every aspect of it, she is definetly not some boring art patron. She as Lynn did a long time ago, is climbing the international jet set ladder. Allison Sarofim who still has a house and connections here in Houston. lives in NYC and is a major socialite in the big apple,as well as having a burgeoning acting career.

  4. Actually, Becca Cason Thrash, who is arguably the city's #1 in that regard, lives - gasp! - outside the loop (in the toniest part of Memorial, to be sure).

Lynn Wyatt is acutually numero uno as far as Houston or even Texas society is concerned, and she does live in River Oaks in a quaint but very stylish georgian house. Lynn's old house once dubbed the Wyatt Regency is still my fav in River Oaks the mansion has been doubled in size since Jim & Cherie Flores moved in. Becca Thrash's who could be numero uno someday has a 22,000 sq ft party palace off of memorial that is like a museum!,the inside gets even better with a huge pool, parties always last after midnight at the Thrashes.

  5. Now this rumor about the River Oaks theater is getting serious,Texas social queen and international art patron Lynn Wyatt, is going to talk and debate to the city council on Thurs about the supposed demolition of the River Oaks Theatre and its neighbors. Lynn Wyatt will bring some clout to the public outcry of this horrific and hopefully false rumor.

  6. I think the Four Seasons would be surprised to learn it's not a five-star hotel.

Shangri-La is starting a big expansion project into the United States. Maybe one will land in Houston.

Shangri-La would be amazing for Houston, but I would love to have a Penisula even more than a Ritz-Carlton. Hotel Derek is the current answer for a W; the Bistro Moderne on site has some very good french faire, and anywhere where Lynn Wyatt takes all of her celebrity buddies is a hot spot. I can see Ritz Carlton opening in the Boulevard or even a W there.

  7. I do miss Sakowitz alot, it had a great run in its heyday, who can forget that famous Sakowitz color green.

Lynn Sakowitz Wyatt is best thing that came from that family, She is Houston's gift to the international jet set. Who else from Texas can be best friends with Mick Jagger, Elton John, and invite Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz over for a dinner party. I also miss the short lived Barneys New York here in Houston, glad to see the CO-OOP store coming to the Galleria.

  8. I seem to recall that Ali did buy that sprawling home on Willowick with the backside facing Buffalo Bayou.

It was a big stone low-slung mansion with a guest house. I don't know if he ever lived there or not.

If you're wondering about Jews in RO, the Sakowitz's had a home there and of course Lynn Sakowitz Wyatt and Bobby Sakowitz have lived there. Joan Weingarten Schnitzer Levy [oy vey!] lives on Knollwood.

I think at some point $$ trumped religion.

    B)

Wow Lynn Sakowitz and Bobby Lipman that was a short marriage that was a long time ago. She moved up the ranks like crazy in international society after she married oil rich Oscar and set up shop in the Cullen mansion on River Oaks Boulevard by the country club. She doesnt even look like she is 70. Now they live in a smaller more quaint mansion in which Lynn calls it her little teepee.

  9. It is worth noting that a list like this only takes into account the headquarters, not the bulk of the company.  Exxon is known throughout the world as a Houston company, yet since a few hundred execs have an office in Dallas, it is a Dallas headquartered company.

Similarly, BP has its North American headquarters here, but clearly is not a Houston company.  So, the two largest corporations in the world have large presences in Houston, but are not on this list as Houston companies.

Houston does have the bulk alot of companies whos headquarters are not in town, such as Chevron, Schlumberger, and isnt Shell based in Europe Royal Dutch Shell or something like that. It would be great to have another energy company move to the former Texaco Heritage Plaza once it gets remodeled. Williams just needs go ahead and move its headquarters from Tulsa into the Williams Tower.

  10. I know someone who works at the Carolina Herrera store in the Galleria, and he told me that Barney's was talking with Simon and wants a store in Texas in both Dallas and Houston. Houston may get the Barney's CO-OP which is a smaller but more hip version of Barneys. Dallas might be getting the regular Barneys New York, which use to be in the Northpark Center as well as The Galleria in Houston.

Miami currently has the CO-OP store.
