  1. That Best Buy is only 5 years old, and it is large enough.

Have you ever been inside of a "good" Best Buy? Ours is definitely a couple of steps below the good ones. I think its more than 5 years old, but only by a couple years. I would think it unwise for them to build a new structure when there are other acceptable rennovated/rennovatable options around town. By that same token I would liked to have seen Circuit City do the same thing. Oh well. I am pleased by the news that they are moving to a bigger location and may finally provide Best Buy with some real competition in the area.

  2. There is a Rosa's Cafe going up next to it. I don't think its part of the development that Abuelo's is in, but who ever is building Rosa's Cafe built it close enough to where it looks like part of the whole resturant development there.

    http://www.rosascafe.net/

Rosa's is actually part of the same development. It is called University Towne Center. It will eventually have a few more restaurants and it will supposedly be lined with retail shops at the back. We'll see.

  3. I went at saw the house a couple of weeks ago. Its not bad. It backs right up to the golf course, has a nice pool with a little bridge over it between the main pool and hot tub. There is a separate guest house. The kitched was really nice with what is now pretty standard for new custom homes (stainless appliances). It also had a marble (or light granite) island that had a built-in marble dining table that juts out towards the den. The master bedroom was nice but the best part of the house was probably the master bath and closets. It was a nice house and I would certainly live there if they were giving it away, but I think it was WAY too hyped. Not really all that much to get excited about. I would say its worth the $5 to look at the house if you don't have anything better to do and you really enjoy looking at houses, but prepare to NOT be blown away.

  4. The new Premiere Cinema opened yesterday.

Linens N Things opened a few weeks ago.

Burger King is building in Bryan.

Also here a rumor of Hooters and Mabe another Wal-Mart or Super Target or HEB.

Premiere Cinema also just announced that one of there restaurnat pads is about to start construction on a new restaurant in front of the theater. I wonder what it will be? I wonder what restarants will go into the other pads?

Just a quick rundown of what I know:

Abuelo's opens on Memorial Day (heard it on the radio)

Veterans Park is being expanded and it will reach from University to Harvey, East of 6

Elm's Orthodontics office at Emerald Pkwy and 6

New C&J's at Southwest Crossing (Southwest Pkwy and Wellborn)

Brenham National Bank at the corner of Southwest Pkwy and 6...oohh, exciting <_<

I've got plans for some other boring stuff, but I'll wait until they actually start building to post anything.

  5. about walmart:we dont need a empty building like a obsolete weenie walmart. I have lived in small towns and i have seen closed walmarts sit empty forever. Plus, i hate walmart so i want them to be stuck with their crappy location in their teeny store.

EDIT: i take that back. The far south part of town needs a general retailer like walmart because currently you would have to go all the way to target on texas ave or the wally world on briarcrest(noticed a lot of people just avoid the weenie walmart on 2818).

Maybe the city could make some deal where walmart could build out on greens prairie road if they agreed to tear down the old store(we all know nothing will want to move into it). Look at the old bryan walmart. Its all empty and nasty sitting by the tejas center. Walmarts is like an albatross, you shoot one and then you be wearing it around your neck.

I totally agree with you. About the only things I have ever seen move into empty Wal Marts are SteinMart (we already have one), Hobby Lobby (have one), and Bigs Lots (just got rid of one). They definitely become eye sores. I really like the idea of making them agree to tear down the existing WalMart once the new is completed.

I too hate WalMart, but this is america and almost everyone winds up needing to go to WalMart for something. For me it usually at midnight when nothing else is open and I need a printer cartridge or something. Normally I would just drive to Bryan and use theirs but in a crunch I go to the crappy one so, it would be nice to have one in CS.

Honestly though, I couldn't care less. I would rather have a Super Target or better HEB location. HEB is much like WalMart but you just can't beat the prices.

  6. The putt putt in killeen is nicer at least. i think they will update sooner or later, or just go out of business. i dont see them staying in business being all ghetto like that.

I agree, I think they will have to do some major renovations or close down once Booneville Station opens. It bothers me that they let the place go so much and will only be forced to change by a competitor or the threat of going out of business. What ever happened to providing a good product/service? I mean, how hard would it have been to upgrade it a little at a time and make sure that things are fixed when broken or worn out. Its just sad. Bad management and ownership I guess.

Also, in reference to the Wal Mart comments, I can't stand the Wal Mart in College Station and I would love for a Super Wal Mart to open. The current store is too crowded. The isles are too close together and you have to play chicken with the other shoppers. Not to mention that it is kind of grimy. I would be in favor of a remodel of the current Wal Mart, but how often do you see that...they'll just build a Super when a suitable lot is approved by the city. (Wal Mart has tried a couple of locations in CS but been shot down.)

  7. Petsmart is completely done will open soon.

anyone have any more good details on these things?

just fyi, Petsmart opened on May 8th. Their "Grand Opening" with all of the give aways and specials is this weekend. Also, Abuelos opens to the general public two weeks from today.

  8. He is crazy.

You're new here. Welcome to the forum! Do you go to A&M?

Thanks! I start at A&M this summer. I have been at Blinn for the past two years and I was an AF Air Traffic Contoller in San Antonio for six years before that. That is where the BE comes from...my operating initials as a controller. My wife is class of 02 so I've been around this community for several years and I am really excited to see it grow and I am very interested in all of the new development that is going on.
