I was there in the last half of my 5th grade, and all of 6th, in 1950 and first half of '51. Don't remember much except we did the Pledge of Allegiance using the 'Hand Salute'.

Very interesting. I've been wondering where Rossmoyne went. I (and siblings and parents) lived on Rossmoyne in 1950 plus/minus a couple of years. Now I know, and can reconcile with Google Maps. And I remember Kinkaid, only a couple of blocks away. The Tax Plots were helpful. As an aside, I (and my brother and sister) went to Montrose Elementary, walked of course. Out the back door, up the alley to Richmond, and then on our way. Tax maps also show where that was, and long gone, too. https://books.tax.hctx.net/v023/AE1997_23-24_0030.jpg

Yup, the Bellamy salute persisted. If you grew up there, you may not have noticed, since you grew up with it, and as kids, it's just something you did. But I moved there in the 5th grade, from Ohio, and the difference in pledging really stood out. And the teacher got a different kid to lead the pledge each day, so I do remember that well....
