The developer reached out to me after I emailed their leasing email address and said that they plan on developing the space for a food and beverage concept and will embrace the Harrisburg Trail in their plans!

They also asked what type of place we would like to be here. Any thoughts?

There are not a lot of healthy options on this side of town. If it is going to be fast food, something like a Panera would be great so you could at least get a fresh salad when in the mood. Are there any bagel shops on this side of town?  More breakfast / brunch options are really needed.

Yes, both of those things would have benefited the garden as a tourist location.  My memory could be failing me but I seem to recall some nice elevations inside Gus Wortham that Glenbrook just doesn’t have.  That was another reason I preferred GW over GB.

It’s water under the bridge now.  I saw recently that Claudia Gee Vassar is stepping down as President and CEO of HBG.  I REALLY hope the board brings in someone that can get things moving.  I feel like the garden has been stagnant since it opened.

An outdoor attraction closing everyday at 5pm makes it very difficult to visit for most people who work during the day. I think extending the hours into the evening would help dramatically.

Is the only pickup time for LRB really 4-4:15pm on Thursdays?

The farmer only drives into town once a week to drop things off. That is how all community supported agriculture programs work. You can pickup anytime after 4:15pm on Thursdays or call and let them know you won't make it until Friday.

Plant it Forward also offers a once a week pickup if they have a time & place more convenient for you.

  4. It is impossible for a store the size of LRB to compete with the big boxes on price. Distributors do not like selling in such a small volume, that is why they have weird brands you don't normally see. Need to think of it more as a bodega / corner store with healthy options.

LRB also offers a CSA pickup every Thursday. You get a very generous portion of healthy, locally grown food for $25.

I can't find the particulars I had once found for the federal project, but hopefully the Lawndale intersection gets redone, since it is the edge of both the EETIRZ and Federal projects, it scares me that this intersection will stay in its current configuration even after this is all done with both parties pointing at the other saying that it wasn't their responsibility.

The Baird - Lawndale - Broadmoor intersection will be addressed by the TIRZ project. Definitely a hot mess, so lots of changes.

They are also going to incorporate several pedestrian crossings, specifically mentioned  Fourcade - Claremont, but I would expect that at every block.

No mention of the traffic signal at Jefferson - Wesley, not sure what will happen there.

The new designs will be much safer so I am sure it will anger drivers who also hate the Lawndale changes.

this is awesome news, did they provide any timelines? are there any more specifics regarding design?

It is a very complicated area to redesign, so they can't share specifics regarding all the curb cuts, stop signs, and ROW changes until everything is approved to begin public omment. But here are some highlights of the project scope and timeline.

True, and the rest of Tlaquepaque is already charming, in my opinion. The big question is whether the Harrisburg TIRZ extends the Telephone upgrades this far north/west (there's a federally funded project to upgrade the street from 610 to Lawndale), and whether the Lockwood improvements will extend this far south (presumably they will because of the University Line BRT alignment).

The Harrisburg TIRZ presented at the last Eastwood Civic Association meeting. They are going to completely redo Telephone from Lockwood to Lawndale.

Was really surprised to hear there is enough ROW to fix & straighten the Dumble intersection so it doesn't require separate traffic light cycles.

And FYI Bohemeo's was originally the Post Office, the gym behind it was the garage for the mail Jeeps.

  8. While the reception of the BRT is mixed in Eastwood, they are not opposing the line, just the horrible design. The ECA had a two hour gathering with their proposed design displayed to get feedback from the 150 neighbors in attendance. Not a single person was in favor of removing the median and trees.

Negatives just off the top of my head:

    • Very walkable / bike able area, 2 streets will be closed dividing the neighborhood and making pedestrians detour a quarter mile
    • There is not enough traffic to justify 4 lanes let alone 6 lanes
    • Lots of old trees will be destroyed
    • Connectivity of the city park across Park Drive is removed while the East End District has a beautiful plan to revamp it (including daylighting the buried bayou)
    • Overpasses = homeless camps
    • Car traffic is not getting grade separation from the UP tracks
    • This is the second oldest suburb in Houston after Woodland Heights and should get more historic preservation not less
