  1. what makes the heights/6th ward restorations work is that the owners of the properties wanted them saved, not a renter. a non-property owner can't really make such demands.

The idea of one house per lot furthers urban sprawl which will hurt any City and its residents in the long run, not to mention our dependence on oil. This is no more apparent than in recent times.

  2. I 100% agree with UrbanEndeavor's response on the Chron's website. These properties could be put to much better use than trying to "save" 10 dilapidated houses. The historic value of this area was gone a long time ago, and the City as a whole benefits more from redevelopment than from attempted restoration.

  3. After moving back to Houston that is one of the first things you notice. How damned ugly those telephone and utility poles are. Especially in a dense urban area, couldn't they have tried to bury some of them?

I believe that once they get approval to redo the 2 brick streets they will also redo the remaining streets in the area and possibly bury everything.

  4. Stayed at ZaZa last night and got a walk through of the Magnificent Seven Suites. The interior of the hotel is gorgeous, and the suites are simply amazing. I loved the 42" flat-screen in my room with tons of HD channels. The entire staff was very polite and looked great. I would say the best part was soaking tub on the balcony of the Tycoon Suite overlooking Hermann Park. Houston has never seen anything like ZaZa!

  5. Is it for sale? I'd love to buy it, put a roof on it, and set up a microbrewry. Call it "Holy Spirits".

It appears the building is too far gone to be saved. But with its close proximity to the new Camden complex and EDGE condos, it would be a great location for just such place.

  6. No. This is the former church at the corner of Andrews and Crosby (visible from I-45). A fire destroyed most of the structure, leaving only the outside walls. After the fire, braces where erected to support the walls. However, the charred remains were left inside. The structure has no roof whatsoever, and without the support braces, the remaining walls would collapse.

    Here is an aerial:
