  1. There is another thread around here somewhere.......this subject has been brought up before. I will try to locate the original thread.

Here is what I believe it was going to be, and now these new guys have taken over.

    http://www.kpgarchitects.com/hosp.htm

It was called Indigo Earth, and there is a thread or two on here about it from 2004.

Back when it was Indigo Earth, I don't remember it ever saying anything about swimming with dolphins. It did have a hotel and an indoor/outdoor water park, but I don’t recall the dolphin thing. If you look at the legend of the map, it shows, near the aquarium, a place where you can swim with dolphins. And if you look at the sign for "Once Upon a Time" that's been put up, it has dolphins jumping out of the water. So it seems this really might be a resurrection of the Indigo Earth project.

  2. Heard a rumor last week that Pappa's is supposedly planning on putting in a Pappasito's and Pappadeaux next to Katy Mills Mall. Anyone else heard this or know if this is more than rumor? I looked on the Pappa's website, but found nothing and did a search of new TABC apps, but found nothing, so I'm thinking it's more a rumor at this point.

  3. I drove by the other day and peeked inside. It pretty much looks like an H-E-B but with more merchandise (clothes etc).

Today was the first day theywere open to the public so I walked through this morning. It was mainly filled with vendors and Walmart exects. It is a little nicer inside than the walmarts we have and is layed out a little differently. It reminded me of the layout of a Walmart that is near Disney in Orlando. Nothing that really stuck out and said "wow" this is different and "upscale".

  4. The management company changed thier flyer for this location over the weekend. The ground that has been broken next to Palais Royal is now in thier flyer showing to be, as previously rumored, a Hobby Lobby. And just so the husbands will have something to do while their wives are shopping there, they now have slated to go next door to Hobby Lobby, a liquor store :P

  5. Different topic than Dennys, but just an FYI for those of us who suffer through the traffic that area. The County approved the light at 7 Meadow's Pkwy and 99 yesterday. they say it should be up in about 6 months. In the mean time they will be installing stop signs. There is also planned making it a double turn lane at the 99 and fry light when you head east on Fry and under 99. they will also be looking into adding a second turn lane when you are under 99 and turing north to get onto 99 from Fry. There is one other item they are looking into that will take HEB approval and that's eliminating the left turns out of HEB's parking lot on to Fry. Traffic that wanted to head west on Fry would need to exit HEB at 7 Meadows Pkwy and turn left on fry at the new light/stop sign.

  6. Maybe I should start a new topic, but.......Does anyone know if there are any plans to open up access to the HEB and the Home Depot parking lots, to rout traffic in directly off off the Grand parkway feeder? It sure would go along way to easing the traffic at that cluster _______ at the first set of driveways. That's bad now, just wait till even more stores open up.

Unfortunately, this has been asked a few times and the same answer keeps coming back. What we see as a "feeder road" next to Home Depot (and HEB) is actually concidered (by TXDOT) to be an exit ramp and entrance ramp respectively. And TXDOT has laws prohibiting entrances or exits that are directly on an entrance ramp or exit ramp. Therefore, TXDOT will not allow to be built entrances or exits on that side of either place. It was just poor planning all around and traffic will just get worse as they complete the Hobby Lobby, the new bank, Fast Food place and the two "best buy" sized businesses that will be on the west side of Home Depot. The only relief that we might see is if the results of the traffic study at 7 Meadow's PKWY and Fry come back and shows a light shoud be put there. It won't help much though.

  7. The new Denny's by Katy Mills is nice. We went there last Sunday. We use to go to the one on Fry Road a lot, but are probably going to go to the new one since it is closer to where I live (Firethorne).

What is interesting is that this Denny's will not be a free standing building. It is going on the end of the stip in a 3,918 sq ft space.

Man, we thought traffic was bad now, just wait until Denny's, Baskin Robbins, and the fast food places open....

  8. What is going up next to the new Firestone? Across the street from Candelarias.....

Big surprise...it's another freaking bank. According to the development layout, there is supposed to be a fast food place in between this bank and the creek/bayou. Also there is supposed to be more development behind both of these next to/ adjacent to Home Depot. Those spaces look to be set up for larger stores similar to the development on north fry's Home depot; Bed Bath and Beyond kind of stuff.

Also, Palis Royal is currently a 44,000 sq ft store, the land right next to it is set to have a business that tops out at 55K and then there is a spot right next to that that's a little smaller. the developer there (and across the street) has no one set for any of these yet.

  9. Does anyone know what they are building in front of Target (Westheimer Parkway/Grand Parkway) next to CVS? It looks like a fast food restaurant of some kind.

Last time I saw the layout for the Target Center that spot next to CVS is supposed to be a Whataburger. They are also supposed to be building more stores next to Specs. One of them was a Michaels crap store...oops sorry, did I type crap...I meant to type craft store..

  10. Property Commerce has updated their flyer with some tenants:

    Papa Johns

    Seven Lakes Nails

    American Mattress

    Clean N Go (Dry cleaners?)

    Delicious Donuts

    Yen Chic Day Spa

    Smoothie King

    Next to Home Depot

The tennant list has changed as of a few days ago:

    Papa Johns

    Seven Lakes Nails

American Mattress is no longer listed

    Clean N Go (Dry cleaners?)

Delicious Donuts is now listed as Beads-Jewelry

    Yen Chic Day Spa

Smoothie King Is now a TCBY

  11. Wikipedia only references Virginia/West Virginia only as a proposed new park site that failed to become real.

    Nothing else was seriouly considered.

    This whole thread is bogus.

your last line pretty much sums it up.

I looked into this a while back and Wiki's Virginia thing is in line with anything I've ever read. From what I found, it is belielved that the "Texas" rumor stemed from this park's failure. Eisner, upon being interviewed whent hey scrapped the plans on Disney America (the propose park in VA) said that the plans had not been scrapped entirely and they would probably not revisit them for antoher 10 to 15 years and when they did, they'd probably look at something in the "middle" since they had both coasts covered, "something like Texas."

  12. I understand that a large government facility is going to be built out that direction. Maybe this is what the sign is about. Disney could be a code name for the project. I would actaully be quite appropriate since all the government is pretty micky mouse and goofy anyway;)

Serioiusly though, when Disney bought the land in Florida, they used multiple "shell" corporations to purchase pieces of land, so that the problems they had in LA wouldn't repeat themselves. In LA the info got out that Disneyland was being built and folks immediately started buying up land all around where Disney said they were going to build. This is why Disneyland (LA) is so land locked and can't expand. Disney didn't want this same problem in Florida, so they did this secret buy up of the land. If I'm not mistaken, they had something like 12 different "fake" companies buy land over the course of a few years so that no one would catch on that all the land was being bought by them. So, the chances of them actually putting a sign up and saying, "Hey, we're building here." are pretty slim.

  13. I would love to see Chuys go in. Hope they can come to some type of agreement.

When looking at the map I saw of the possible tennants. they were color coded. Perry's was in blue with denoted lease in progress. Chuy's was denoted in pink which shows LOI under negotiation. from The look of the order of the colors on the legend, is seems that Perry's was/is farther along than Chuy's in the lease process. So it is all together possible that the Perry's deal fell through, much the same as Carabba's did.

  14. The proposed list of tenants looks great. I would LOVE to have a Williams-Sonoma nearby. The clothing shops would be great additions as well. You haven't heard anything about a Harold Powell opening have you? It would seem to fit well with the other retail.

That is also great news about the Chuy's and additional restaurants. It looks like Katy's dining options are really starting to expand. Any word on what the specialty grocery will be?

not yet,but if I find out I'll "spill it" .

And I'd not get too excited yet. most of those are tentative or what the developer is calling "proposed" there are different steps in the process. They are:

    Available

    Prospect

    LOI being Negotiated

    Lease being finalized

    Leased

All these names I mentioned are at the "prospect" level, so they are very tentative. I just wanted to get everyone an idea of what type of retailers that La Centerra is looking at.

  15. By now most of us know what La Centerra has or is going to have in phase one, but I just found out this afternoon what they have planned for phase two. None of this is set in stone yet and very subject to change, but the proposed tenant list is:

    Rocky Mountain Chocolate

    Chipotle

    James Avery

    Swoozies

    Ann Taylor

    Sigrid Olsen

    Lucy

    Buckle

    PacSun

    Delia's

    Cinco Day Spa

    Fossil

    Williams- Sonoma

    DSW

    Bananna Republic

    Petite Sophisticate

    The Children's Place

There is also supposed to be 3 different 5000 square foot stand alone restaurants and what they are labeling as a 38K square ft "specialty grocery"

Also it looks like the other restaurant across from Perry's Steakhouse in Phase 1 that is looking into moving in is Chuy's

  16. What I heard was something about a "disney" animal farm something or other. yada yada yada.....

I've tried to find it, but there was a web site totally dedicated to this series of rumors. As my user name shows, I've lived in Katy for a good long while and this rumor pops up about every 2 or 3 years. I remember reading that the Texas/Disney connection came from a discussion that Michale Eisner had once where he was giving a press conference regarding the failed Disney America plan (Disney America was to be build in Virginia and themed to all things patriotic) When it was determined that they could not build in VA because some of the more wealthy folks there said they'd tie up the build in the courts for years, the idea was put on the far back burner. He said in this interview that they hadn't killed the idea entirely, but it would not be something they would address for the next 10 to 15 years and when asked where else he thought Disney might look to build, he said something to the effect that "we have both coasts covered, so somewhere in the middle would be advantageous, maybe something like Texas". The speculation is that this little mention is where all the Disney in Texas rumors came from. I know one of the now "dead" websites that detailed all of this was www.disneyinsealy.com . Just thought y'all might find this interesting.
