  1. I live next door in 1901. I talked to someone over the phone at the Poker Club a couple months ago and they said they were leaving mid April and that it was going to be an upscale retail development. It was just one guy so who knows, but will be great it is isn't too high up for the residents at 1901. Luckily I face south in the tower but I was looking at a unit facing north there. Not going to consider it not with construction coming soon.

  2. So it looks like the pool is facing east with 5 stories on all other sides? Drives me nuts when apartments do this. Sure there are only five stories above it but it will still significantly affect the amount of sun exposure, especially in the Fall/Winter/Spring... The south side of the pool will only get sun in the very early hours of the morning... Afternoons will be terrible.  -facepalm-

  3. HI folks, bringing this back from the dead. Does anyone know if this 5050 Ambassador Way project ever materialized, or are there any plans in the future to develop it? The original condos are still there and as far as I can tell people still live there. I'm considering getting an apartment in the Hanover BLVD place that overlooks this lot, but I don't want to if there's anything planned to be built there over the next year. I'm also curious as well. Seems like all the older places are getting bought up. Thanks!

Just curious but were you worried about the view or just didn't prefer living next to an apartment complex?

Mostly did not want to be close to the apartment complex, but the view was a part of it. This house had all it's primary windows facing east. Had there been a lot of windows facing another direction I would have still slightly considered it as it was a very nice house, albeit not pre-WWII that was ideal. The rooftop deck had clear views south and west as well, but just being right there across the street in the center of an 8 story apartment complex was a no way for me.

See the six 4-story homes on the top left? I almost bought the one on the far right until I discovered this project. It was a really nice house - very high end on the inside. I was so bummed but so glad I didn't buy. FYI I really wanted a pre-WWII house but man I spent 10 months looking for one that would work and could never make it happen. Still looking!

The townhouse that it sounds you love, replaced a single family historic home others may have loved. Now townhomes owners are pretty upset about even bigger developments... and the cycle continues.

I absolutely agree and have mentioned to a few friends how payback is a biyatch. I was interested in a another newer home as well an dug into Google Earth to see what was there before and saw such a wonderful old home that was demolished and it made me feel sad. I was a teenager in the 80s and was in the Montrose area a lot back then and loved it, and sadly it has changed so much for mostly the worse. My current home search includes pre-WWII homes as well but they are hard to find in a condition that works for me, but my search continues hoping for something good. The newer homes are still an option as well, but they have to be close to perfect, and this one was more than close until I knew about these apartments. Thankfully I have time and patience to find another one.

  7. I have been looking in Montrose for a new house for several months now and just yesterday finally found my perfect house on W Bell. It is pretty awesome for a new house with awesome views of downtown. My home search has been difficult so I was so pumped about this place. Of course I started searching online about the area to make sure there weren't going to be any surprises or developments that would make this house less desirable. I found the Chronicle article and now this. Ugh. So annoyed. It is kind of funny though, the house I want is a 4 story small footprint home that blocked the views of other homes behind it, so now it is payback time. I just wish I had never found it in the first place.

So how long do you guys think it will be before they actually break ground? It's been 4 years since they announced this thing! And unless they sell the land to someone else I won't even consider buying it. I could deal with losing the view(at the right price) but not having an 8 story apartment complex across the street.
