  2. For some time now, I've considered opening up some type of art, design and/or photography (NOT PORTRAITS!!) business.

I've been thinking along the lines of an online business and trying to get my work displayed here around Houston....and see how and where it goes from there.

Do any of you have an online business?

    Any advice or input?

  3. Houston1stWordOnTheMoon,

Are you kidding me with the first photo!?

WE'RE ALL lucky the second picture you posted is a 3/4 length shot....the further away from that fugly mug the better!

SHE was lucky to find a concealor that covers like spackle and a photographer clever enough to use a background that takes attention and focus AWAY from her face and man-hands....but most importantly her face *shudder*!!!!

No, "political crap" as you put it is not clouding my judgment. If we are using the term objective/objectivly as defined as expressing or dealing with facts or conditions as perceived without distortion by personal feelings, prejudices, or interpretations....then yes, in my opinion I am looking at Carol Alvarado very objectively when I say she has to be one of the most UNattractive females I have ever seen. But, that is my opinion.

Have you ever seen her up close and in person? It's disturbing how rough she looks. I would hate to see the type of man it would take to stand next to her in order to make Carol appear to be feminine. And again, I am speaking from only an aesthetics point of view.

Was "political crap" clouding your judgment when you made your statement about Sue Lovell? Do you believe Sue Lovell "looks like a man" because she may be homosexual?

IF I was discussing "political crap" I would be more concerned with the fact Carol Alvarado currently plans to run for Senate. Carol Alvarado as a senator....now THAT may be ALMOST as scary as her face. *shudders violently*

  4. Htowngirl: I know what you mean about Red Door....I have seen the soccer moms and last time I went there were a bunch of people there that looked like they just stepped off the set of a hip-hop video....I like all kinds of music, even hip-hop but it was just strange to see there.

The Light has pretty good drinks too but is kinda hit or miss (I guess like most places) depending on the night you go.

  5. drey00: I have NEVER ever had a problem at Red Door either and I have been going there for years. The door guy is the sweetest!! I stopped by last Friday night thinking I'd end the night with an old favorite and I did notice a couple of different things:

!. It was definitley not as packed as it used to be. I remember when you literally could not move in that place.... I figured it was not as crowded though because of all the new places in the area

    2. The crowd was really really different compared to any other time I had ever been

Red Door still has the best drinks....in my opinion. I can have 2 or 3 and be ass-canned!

  6. Thanks!

Hmmm The Roof sounds similar to Red Door (with the view and Jon Secada music) except I have never seen anyone that looked like they were "looking for a fight" at Red Door. =) Was it just a really young crowd at The Roof?

Last Friday we started out at Pub Fiction and I thought a bunch of the people in there looked really REALLY young. (It's not like I'm old or anything - I just turned 27)

Anyways, I'm happy there are more places to choose from....I was getting tired of the same ole places!

Looks like I need to get out more....I haven't seen XO Lounge or A38 yet either so I'll have to check 'em out.

Man, the tow trucks in MidTown have been getting everyone lately! They're like vultures....

  7. We passed by Whiskey Creek last night (next to Escobar) but didn't go inside because it looked like no one was there. It's supposed to be an "upscale" country bar/club....just wondering if anyone has been and what it was like.

I've been pretty busy with school & haven't been out as much so if you've been to Epic & The Roof I'd like to know what you thought about them as well.

  8. I am already in pretty good shape (run and weight train regularly) but am a little bored with the same old routine.

I tried Yoga and Pilates but even after doubling up on my adderall (add/adhd meds) it still drove me nuts!!

    Kickboxing/Cardiokickboxing sounds pretty interesting/fun.

Can anyone recommend a trainer or good studio?

Also, what exactly is the difference? I would imagine the cardio is probably non-contact and fast paced but I really have no idea.

    Thanks!

  9. The law firm I work for now and the law firm I worked for previously = bankruptcy, foreclosure, litigation, sequestration, loss mitigation.

We work a few months a head of time, for example, tomorrow is our February sale.

All of the properties up for the February sale tomorrow were prepped and pretty much ready since December.

I have heard of co-workers being asked to give out lists of properties that will be forclosed on in exchange for a "bird-dog" fee. I am assuming that they give out a list of names of people that have filed bankruptcy to protect their homesteads and give the Debtor an opportunity to make payment arrangements in the hopes of avoiding foreclosure and call it a "pre-foreclosure" list. If the Debtor then defaults (usually the BKY plan filed permits three notice of default, if the debtor fails to cure them then a notice of termination is sent to the debtor, debtor's atty, etc. and a certificate of default is filed w/ the court. The Debtor's file is then in foreclosure. Again, I am assuming that is one way of getting the pre-forclosure listings)

From MY experience, the properties usually do not have anything terribly wrong with them at all. The main reason we see all of the bankruptcies/forclosures in our firm = people living outside of their means.

  10. I love everything about Christmas and the holiday season! The family get togethers (well, until they drive me nuts!), the weather, the crazy holiday shopping, presents and decorations, food and celebrations, etc. etc....

Like every year, the law firm I work for has it's "holiday party" in December (this year it's on the 3rd). What irks me is that because we have a few JW's that work at the firm we are not able to decorate around the office or even call our Christmas party a Christmas party when in fact everyone knows that's exactly what it is. Obviously the JW's I work with know it's a Christmas party anyway - they never even show up for the event. I guess just because we are a law firm we have to be extra PC. I also don't understand why Christmas is the only holiday we at the firm don't really recognize. JW's do not celebrate any holiday or even their own birthday (that I know of - I'm not a JW so I am not sure) BUT our company has a costume contest every Halloween and we go to lunch and have a party with cake and ice cream on everyone's birthday. The funny part is the JW girls are usually first in line for cake and always looking for seconds!!

Anyways, it sucks that Christmas always gets picked on.

(and before anyone comments, no, I do not have anything against JW's or any other religious group. I am always willing to embrace different cultures and ethnic groups along with their principles, values and beliefs....blah blah blah.... Just let me hang my Christmas crap up damn it!!)

  11. What happened to this place? Tutto Bene was a cozy little Italian restaurant located on feagan (off of Shepherd). I liked going because the service was always friendly, the food always good and the atmosphere lent itself well to either dinner with the fam. or an outta the way place to take a date. (dimly lit - twinkling lights and candles, singers/musicians on the weekends)

Does anyone know why it closed or if they reopened elsewhere - maybe with a new name??

  12. Yep, I agree. Must have been like Kim. and Eelimon suggested (Labor Day weekend, school starting, rush week, ball games, more bars/clubs to choose from, etc....) at the time I started this thread. I have been out runnin the streets of Midtown like crazy since then and the scene has been sick!!!! I'm so glad!

Where do you think the best places to be or be seen are on any given night of the week? (You don't have to just limit the answers to Midtown.)
