  1. I agree about the back-toback National League Wildcard Champs thing. Who cares - they didn't win a division and shouldn't be celebrating like they won the pennant.

    But LET'S GO STROS!!!!

I dissagree, these guys have tackeled major adversity for two years now. They were 15 and 30 in april, came back to win this wild card and did it with either AA kids or 40 plus year old men. I think a celebration was in order.

  2. I think there is one thing that is hard to pinpoint about Houston, and that is that it feels tighter, not just in the relentless traffic, but also in the way buildings, skyscrapers, freeways, concrete, and the people interact. It's the opposite of prairie. There is a huge industrial machine in Houston. The whole east and the port of Houston oozes a surreal sense of industry. Downtown, The Medical Center, Uptown, and all the other large business districts have that feel of city. Even suburbs sometimes are just as congested as the central city. But that's not to say that after the grueling day, the city does not play just as hard. The festivals and the nightlife and the food scene permeate the entire city.

I'm from So Cal, live in Houston, and visit Dallas frequently. There both cool cities but if your into a BIG city feel Houston is the place to be. As 2112 comments and I elaborate, Houston feels tighter than Dallas, bigger, more of a mega city feel to it.

The major business districts in Houston are larger than those of Dallas and there close proximity to one another make the city look very big.

Dallas has some neat aspects to it like the new Uptown densification and it's topography. I also like to hang out at some of the lakes but the public areas seem to be dwindling as more residential areas go up.

Just speaking for myself I like Houston's gritty and maverick like attitude better than the more glamorous Dallas. I also think that the people here are more down to earth and friendlier than those in Dallas.

I will say however that I've come to know many in Ft Worth and it's got a more similar attitude to Houston than it does to Dallas. I really like Ft Worth as a choice but it does lack the big city feel that Houston and Dallas offer.

Bottom line is that both cities have so much to offer and you can't go wrong either way, but if you love that BIG city feel, Houston's the place to be in Texas.

  3. I think you might ought to consider that maybe Carr bites, too.  QB rating was a whopping 12.  Glad I didn't watch the game.  I was watching my new favorite tam, the Saints.

Red I'm once again in aggreement with you. David Carr is overrated, he doesn't make wise decisions, and yes even when he's got the time to throw. Another thing that drives me crazy with Carr is the fact that he has very little touch on his passes. As a guy who played split end in high school through my senior year, I hated playing with quarterbacks who through the ball hard when a nice touch was required. A nice touch not just to catch the ball but to increase the rythem of the run after the catch.

I don't think Carr is inept but I do think he needs a much better QB coach. As far as Palmer is concerned, I don't know one person who thinks he's competant enough to run the Texans offense let alone any NFL team.

Someone kidnap Tom Brady and bring him to Houston.

  4. I do not consider Dallas a rival.  I consider it an inland city that has too many residents who are too full of themselves.  In fact, the only times I ever think of Dallas are when I root against the Cowboys or I read these ridiculous whiny posts.  Otherwise, like most Houstonians, I don't think of Dallas at all.  It's time was the 70s and 80s, and it is old news now.

    And the choir said, AMEN.

  5. I agree that the rivalry exists. I'm not denying that. What I'm saying is that it's more one sided than it is a mutual rivalry. I'm sure all the Dallasites YOU know have an anti-Houston conversation every time YOU talk to them, because I'm sure YOU somehow bring it up or initiate it. What I'm saying is that rarely do you ever hear people in Dallas just sitting around Houston-bashing. Even in the Dallas and Fort Worth Forums there isn't any (or at least very little) Houston-bashing going on.... I know that in the FW forum, anytime Houston comes up mostly positive things are said about your city. FW people actually like Houston, in general. In the Dallas forum you are probably more likely to run into a few Houston-bashers... but they're not locking dozens of threads because it gets out of control or anything even near that level. In fact, there are threads in the San Antonio sub-forum that have been locked because the Houston vs Dallas flame war erupted over there. Houstonians seem to have a problem even discussing other cities without somehow turning the conversation back to how bad Dallas sucks. Now, THAT is ludicrous!!! And it also indicates that Houstonites have more of a tendency to bash Dallas than Dallasites tend to bash Houston. You certainly don't hear people in the Dallas or FW forums discussing Chicago or Philly and suddenly getting side-tracked by any Houston-bashing eruptions.

Now, I have a feeling I know a lot more Dallasites than you do - but maybe not - given the fact that I've grown up in DFW, always worked in Dallas, and spend most of my time there. I can honestly say that I've never had a Houston-bashing conversation pop up out of nowhere with any of the Dallasites I know... And, while sitting around in various parts of Dallas - Uptown, Turtle Creek, HP, etc - I have never heard a Houston-bashing session erupt from anyone around me. On the other hand, I can honestly say that I used to work with 3 women all of whom grew up in Houston and were very passionate about Houston... and all of them used to dog on Dallas regularly even though they hadn't lived there in Houston in over a decade.
