The late 80's led to the deterioration of many neighborhoods - sharpstown, greenspoint as mentioned above that never recovered. i also remember meyerland slipping, meyerland plaza was pretty empty until wolfe tore down the plaza part and rebuilt it. i miss the vertical meyerland sign (replaced by a smaller sign in the back) that fell during hurricane carla and wish it still had the plaza in the middle. the stores could have had a front and back entrance and be able to walk easily from bad bath & beyond to target. who would have thought that meyerland and bellaire would rebound by sharpstown wouldn't. i think that has to do with the apartments surrounding sharpstown that went downhill in the 80's and are just dumps now. to have bought a house in meyerland and especially bellaire in the late 80's for song, would have been a sweet investment.

i am a native houstonian who would love to see light rail and train service in houston. it still depresses me that the katy and westpark rail lines were removed as they would have been great for light rail. as to why i am a fan of rail, i became a fan while staying a summer in spain. during that summer, we would take the subway everyday, then on weekends we would take a train to visit other cities. since then i plan my vacations with cities that have subways (US and Europe). and in europe it is nice that i can fly to one city and make my way by train to other cities. i think of all the places i want to visit in the US, but don't want to deal with driving in strange cities. and would love to be able to take a train to dallas/fw, austin or san antonio for a quick weekend trip and not have to deal with traffic getting there or driving there.

As my parents have lived on Spellman since 1958, the "world" of my childhood ended at Warm Springs. It has been open field behind it as long as they have been there. My dad is looking forward to the Willow Waterhole to be expanded to that side of Post Oak.

can't believe it will be 40 years next month. even after all the years i still won't drive down cliffwood to my parents house. i either drive down greenwillow or windwood. i will be out of town on the 18th, but my thoughts will still be with the families that were affected by this senseless tragedy.
