  1. i passed by the site yesterday. constructions is still in its infancy stage. i see the potential, location wise. it is a 5 minute drive down navigation to minute maid park. and the site is not inside "the hood". it's basically on a wide, commercial industrial thouroghway which doesn't pose any traffic congestion issues. still the problem of available retail in the area, but hopefully the lockwood/harrisburg site will soon turn into the big retail shopping center it is planned for. it maybe a little ahead of it's time, but time will catch up and this area will be very desirable IMO in the near future.

  2. Wow, never knew so many people on here lived nearby! My parents lived on Japonica St. when I was born but, shortly thereafter, moved to Stillwell St. where I was raised and still live at. If I had the funds I would love to buy my fathers' parents old home at 4522 McKinney over in Eastwood. When my parents separated back in the early-'80s my mother lived with a lady that owned a house on the corner of McKinney & Lockwood. Unfortunately, the house caught fire shortly after my mother moved back in with my dad. Does anyone remember the house on that corner? I heard it's been remodeled and someone lives in it now but haven't been over there to see it.

hey, i live on stillwell too. just moved here in november. my wife and i love the location. she is an agent for carlos garcia realty and i have car dealership off telephone and i-45.

  3. Yes, I remember the witch's house behind the What-A-Burger in Garden Villas. In the mid-80's some of my friend's older brothers and sisters would take us wrapping houses (I know, I know) and we would drive up to this house and sit in the drive-way. As soon as the security lights would come on we would take off as fast as we could. I never actually heard the story behind why people felt that a witch lived there though....

maybe it was the woman dressed in black who flew into her garage on a broom that sparked the rumor

  4. the original ninfas and el jardin are mine and my wife's favorite in the east side. we also like del sol - always fresh and reasonably priced. it is not a mexican restaurant, but texas land and cattle in front of gulfgate 30 has an excellent steak and enchilada dinner. we highly recommend it. loma linda is fair but the portions are too small for the price. never was a big fan of doneraki's, food doesn't justify the prices. and on more than one occasion, the silverware was dirty. don carlos is ok too, but also too expensive for the quality of food you get.

  5. my wife and i will be calling the neighborhood of Brookline home very soon. this neighborhood is off of griggs and 45 or griggs and telephone. we found a remodeled 4plex that is rented out and will practically pay for the mortgage payment. we hope to build a home in country club in the next couple of years.

  6. [As a property owner in East End for many years & hubby ol' home place was Eastwood, we're happy to see the new development. How could an area with such a rich history have been unknown for so long?

Reading messages, there is mention of "unknown/untapped potential" areas around Country Club Estates & Idlywood. There are great buys in these areas. I've owned a house in the Sunnylan subdivision area for years & the area just seems to be unknown. There are numerous "unknown/under appreciated" small subdivisions along Lawndale from Telephone to Wayside. They border the Gulf Fwy on the South. Also just across the freeway @ Telephone is more "untapped potential". Being a pioneer is not easy nor is it always profitable unless one is in it for the "long run". I have a house in that area I'm wanting to sell in the near future & hope I can find a buyer who can "appreciate an underdeveloped jewel in the rough" enough to pay me a decent price.

i'm just gettin into real estate investing. this is the area i'm concentrating on. i believe this area is prime for growth.

  7. i'm pretty familiar with southeast. living and working in the area for years, i am totally comfortbable in this side of town, and will probably make it my long time residence for the foreseeable future. the side of town i fear most is by far southest/bellaire/fondren areas. it seems most of the time i see a shooting or violent crime in the newspaper it is from the southwest side. but one thing is true, there are bad areas on all sides of this great city of ours, all sides. the least dangerous maybe the straight west side, not southwest or northwest, but straight west down memorial, i-10 area all the way to katy. just my 2 cents.

  8. just checked out the house on fair oaks. wow. you are right. 2500 sq. feet, beautiful neighborhood, it is not idylwood, be better value than idylwood, imo. this house in idylwood would be over $225k imo. this one won't last long. my wife and i actually want to build a house in this neighborhood. we both work close by and it's a nice, quiet, neighborhood which i believe will appreciate better than idlywood and eastwood over the next several years. feel free to call my wife nevermore if you would like her to show it to you. 713-906-5389. she works about a mile away, so any time that is convenient for you.

  9. Nevermore, my wife and I live in an urban loft two blocks outside downtown off west dallas in 4th ward. Location can't get much better for downtown workers. We really don't want to sell, we may rent because of appreciation in this area, but if we can get $209k, we will take our equity and run, we're not greedy. :) Everyone else trying to sell their lofts in the neighborhood are asking around $230k. I think they'll eventually have to come down to earth. I have heard of problems of re-sale with townhomes, but I think location far outweighs that with this neighborhood. My wife actually wanted midtown area when we bought over 2 years ago, but I preferred 4th ward because the location and downtown views and I knew it would appreciate faster.

If you're more inclined to the house/bungalow type thing, I also know of a very nice property in the East End. This house would be $260k in the heights, but it is selling for $183k. It is a little over 1500sf, wood floors, brick bungalow, beautiful home and close to downtown, fully remodeled, and in a nice up and coming neighborhood. If you have interest in these properties or any other, give my wife a call(713-906-5389). She is an agent and would love to help you find your next home. Her name is Enriqueta. Good luck!

  10. Nice, glad you didn't forget my hood, 4th Ward. As far as the church goes, that place was abandoned for several years before it burned and was was a haven for the homeless. The community activists went all up in arms when they were going to tear it down, but they obviously do not have the money or will to bring it back to life. They are so concerned about preserving history, but history has to be maintained before it can be preserved. It's going on 2 years now since that unfortunate incident. They need to get moving and restore it or tear it down, soon.

  11. got to bed last night around 1:30 am. after moving everything inside our loft preparing for the storm. wife wakes me up crying and going hysterical saying we must leave. i told her to stop trippin' and let me sleep a little while longer. she finally gets me up about half an hour later, wake up my lil brother and the three of us head out to my mom's house off of i-10 and eldridge. we plan to go to my bro's house in dallas. watch news, dedide to wait for further info. finally decide to wait it out. we are staying here in west houston.

  12. Hi. We are looking to relocate to Houston and we drove around and saw the Woodlands. We think it is a beautiful area and that it would be a great place to live. We like the Heights, too, which is similar to the area we live in in our current city of residence. Unfortunately, the Heights houses are WAY more expensive to get something comparable to what we have. The only neighborhood we really thought was beautiful and affordable to get comparable space was the Woodlands. We just have one concern and would like to get some feedback from people who live there or know the area well. We are registered Democrats. We are not rabid liberals or anything, but we just want to make sure the Woodlands isn't like the Stepford Wives.  :) We are a 30s couple with no kids and we just don't want to be the ONLY non-Republicans in our neighborhood. Moving to TX/Bush Country is scary enough right now. I don't mean this to offend anyone, we have lots of Republican friends. We just want to live in a place that will appreciate a diversity of opinions.

Any thoughts you can offer would be most welcome!

    Thanks,

    Kelley & Dave

    Kansas City, MO

this may make you feel a little better.  though i'm sure there are a lot of republicans in the woodlands, i would venture to say that the rep/dem ratio there would be no more than 55/45 probably closer.  and in harris county which consists of houston and the greater metro area, more people voted for kerry in 2004. and though we've tried in the last two mayoral races to elect conservatives, registered democrats won both times, the last time Bill White destroyed his conservative opponent.  so, though texas as a whole, is a red state, houston and the the surrounding area is very diverse and more down the middle.  come on down! you'll like it here!
