    OVERVIEW

In May 2007, leading atheist Christopher Hitchens and Christian apologist Douglas Wilson began to argue the topic “Is Christianity Good for the World?” in a series of written exchanges published in Christianity Today. The rowdy literary bout piqued the interest of filmmaker Darren Doane, who sought out Hitchens and Wilson to pitch the idea of making a film around the debate.

In Fall 2008, Doane and crew accompanied Hitchens and Wilson on an east coast tour to promote the book compiled from their written debate titled creatively enough, Is Christianity Good for the World?. “I loved the idea of putting one of the beltway’s most respected public intellectuals together with an ultra-conservative pastor from Idaho that looks like a lumberjack”, says Doane. “You couldn’t write two characters more contrary. What’s more real than a fight between two guys who are on complete opposite sides of the fence on the most divisive issue in the world? We were ready to make a movie about two intellectual warriors at the top of their game going one-on-one. I knew it would make an amazing film.”

In Christopher Hitchens, Doane found a celebrated prophet of atheism. Loud. Funny. Angry. Smart. Quick. An intimidating intellectual Goliath. Well-known for bullying and mocking believers into doubt and doubters into outright unbelief. In Douglas Wilson, Doane found the man who could provide a perfect intellectual, philosophical, and cinematic counterpoint to Hitchens' position and style. A trained philosopher and and deft debater. Big, bearded, and jolly. A pastor, a contrarian, a humorist--an unintimidated outsider, impossible to bully, capable of calling Hitchens a puritan (over a beer).

It was a collision of lives.

What Doane didn’t expect was how much Hitchens and Wilson would have in common and the respectful bond the new friend/foes would build through the course of the book tour. “These guys ended up at the bar laughing, joking, drinking. There were so many things that they had in common”, according to Doane. “Opinions on history and politics. Literature and poetry. They agreed on so many things. Except on the existence of God.”

  3. 3 Olives is having another wine dinner. I copied/pasted what was on their Facebook.

On another note, has anyone tried the Take Home dinners from the Frana La Bodeguita/Imports place next door to them? It's on my list of things to do but we haven't gotten around to it yet.

  4. I don't want to rain on your parade, but my friend just sold her house in Falcon Point due to the ongoing deterioration of the neighnorhood. Her street became a thoroughfare for the Katy Mills Mall and the adjoining neighborhoods are becoming rental properties. Not only that, but there is a huge apartment complex going up behind the subdivision.

While they were working on the Kingsland extension to Katy Mills, Katy Fort Bend Road was closed and mall traffic from Bay Hill Blvd was detoured through the neighborhood for a week or so.

  5. I'm assuming that you are referring to the fact that Allie's did close up shop?

Yeah, they are gone. I agree it is unfortunate when someone doesn't make it.

Re: the sign, my wife said that it sent a mixed message... it was more suited to a barbecue place than a nice sit-down restaurant with cloth napkins, etc.

  6. I just found out about this event and saw them setting up when I drove by there yesterday. We've got Christmas parties Saturday night, and I think we're gonna have my mother in law take the kids here while we're at our Christmas parties.

  7. I take me and my two boys every month or so to get our hair cut at these places, and it looks good that day and maybe the next few, but then it looks terrible (especially on the boys, uneven, etc.)

My wife goes to some high dollar salon in Spring, and I've gone before, and they do an awesome job, but you gotta make appointments forever in advance, and it costs an arm and a leg, etc. And all I want is the "Ceasar" or George Clooney look of a few years back, nothing fancy.*

Is there an inbetween for me? I'd prefer walk-in, and even waiting for a good stylist (for me at least.)

    Help...

  8. moo, I live in the as yet un-Google mapped part of Falcon Ranch, and it's like the Google camcar just stopped in the middle of the road rather than continue down on the unmapped streets. Maybe when the rest of the streets get on the map streetview will show up.

Oh well... a few more weeks/months of "privacy" I guess...

  9. They were at Kingsland just off Mason, but are now in that strip center along the Grand Parkway/99. We ate there last night and it wasn't as nice inside as the old place (and my kids noticed no ice cream machine...but I didn't ask about it.)

    Anyone know why they moved?

  10. Also....does anyone know where I can look online at a map showing the boundaries of 100-year floodplains?

Tropical Storm Allison Recovery Project - TSARP

TSARP's mission is to assist residents of Harris County in recovery from Tropical

Storm Allison and minimize damages from future floods by investigating the ...

    www.tsarp.org

Their server seems to be taking a beating at the moment though. There is an "Interactive Map Tool" on there that will let you zoom in on an address. It also shows the 500 yr floodplain boundaires.
