I had some pretty good New York style pizza at Luigi's in Midtown, by Houston standards, that is. They also have a case of gelatos, and it's a BYOB restaurant. Very cool little place.
Definitely my vote too. Best NY style pizza around. Wish I lived back in that area just for the pizza!

I would definitely drive to this one over the Voss/ Woodway store. The Voss store is the smallest WF in the Houston area, and they have a pretty small selection of items.
Sad to see America's go, but was lucky to dine there on their last weekend open. Food was delicious AS ALWAYS!

Spec's was standing this morning, but is now a pile of rubble this evening! I believe this will be the new driveway for the building.

Also, what's crazy is that MetroNational pretty much owns the entire Memorial City area! http://www.metronational.com/portfolio_memorialcity.shtml
So if they need to tear down the bunker hill shopping with the Spec's to get more space, they sure as heck can!

I figured there would be some talk about this on here! It sure is going to be another office building. From what I am told it is going to be a mirror of the cemex building (14 stories) and it will be attached by walkway to the apartments garage (just like the other building is as well). I didn't realize the spec's was going away, but I do know that the new building will have a Bunker Hill address. It will also be situated a bit further back than the current office building so that the apartment views are not completely stolen. If you haven't seen the view from the penthouse up there on what now WAS the good corner, it was amazing!

The builder has met with us (EDGE owners) to discuss how they could "beautify" the cement walls (plantings/vines, paint, etc)...I don't know if there has been any final decisions on that...whatever they do, it won't restore the view
Clouds? lol, yeah that would be nice if they could at least give you that much to "make amends".

Oh come on... you're way off. I've been here three years and have seen nothing but the same foot traffic with more development in the neighborhood. The crime statistics from Precinct 7 Constables, HPD, and Metro all show continued declines in our crime (I've been to the Midtown Public Safety meetings). Your personal observation runs contrary to the crime stat facts.
That's interesting because at our HOA meeting a few weeks ago there was talk about how crime has gone UP, from the area 7 Constables, and how the corner of Anita and Austin was where a guy got footage of broad daylight robberies! We are just a few blocks away too. I'm not trying to argue with you, but it does seem odd that being so close we aren't hearing the same info.

Not sure where you've been, but that house was demolished months ago. The discussion on the plans for this lot are new (I've talked with the designers). Midtown also just received the funding for it so it is now happening. They are in the process of finalizing the designs right now.
The house I was referring to right there south of McGowen @ LA Branch (and just south of this proposed project) is still boarded up. Someone bought the first house and has cleaned it up, but the second, closer to McGowen has random signs for a Car Wash and is in serious demise. And yes, that corner, with the Metro stop is crime central!

Yep -- some of the end units are very close to nice cement walls now....I at least have the pool between my balcony and the cement wall !
this garage is the reason I joined this forum! I saw that and instantly thought "what a PISS POOR deal for those who bought at Edge!". I can't believe that is even legal for them to basically just block out unit's only source of light! I'd be livid over this construction. Are a lot of owners trying to sell?

This is true, though I, personally, have beeen assaulted/robbed twice in the last two years in Midtown, once with a gun involved. While my incident may be unique in the circumstances involved, I do not believe for a second that the assaults are mainly limited to "bum fights" or drunk patrons at bars as you suggest.
I agree with you. The major incidents are not in fact committed by the homeless, but rather the vagrants that live on the other side of 59 that come over during the day and cause trouble. They have been seen committing burglaries in broad daylight, jumping fences and stealing property, etc. Even the area constables say that the homeless are an issue, but they are opportunists, committing petty crimes such as grabbing your purse walking by or stealing a bike left outside. They are not the ones breaking down doors to rob electronics, etc!

Or are people giving up on the neighborhood in the sense it doesn't seem to be progressing? I guess I'm just venting cause it's discouraging.
I can tell you from living in a townhome there for four years now, it's because the neighborhood is getting worse and worse- and it's been mainly the past year. Crime, drug use, and vagrants have skyrocketed in the last year. You can't even get in your front door now without being watched by men just hanging out on the corner anymore.
I too have noticed all the townhomes going up for lease, block by block, and amazingly they are still getting leased out pretty fast. It's a shame to see it happening as we have such a nice home here, but ours too will be up for lease in the next few months.

These signs have been posted for years on this lot! I would have loved to see this come up, however all that is there now is a bunch of homeless and a boarded up former prostitution house!
let me add too, that retail on this corner doesn't make too much sense. Most retail has been kept west of Main street in the midtown area.
