Grand Parkway

Recommended Posts

The next agenda item for consideration is segment "G" from I45 to I59. Segment "F2" which passes south of The Woodlands now has another alternative that passes south of the Northampton area and just south of the railroad tracks on Gosling. Although the preferred location passes between the schools in Northampton, it now appears that the more southern alignment will be actually selected. That is only my impression of the proceedings. Anyone else have a handle on the selection of a route from the proposed alignments? This parkway will considerably enhance accessability of The Woodlands and provide a much needed alternative means to access the eastern, northeastern, northern and northwestern areas of Houston without dependence on I45 or Hardy toll road.

Last week, Harris County Commissioners Court unanimously approved nearly $10 million worth of contracts for a new segment of the Grand Parkway. The contracts involve section design and surveying and right of way mapping services for segment E, which runs approximately north-south from I-10 west to Highway 290.

And excellent commentary from Christof:

So why would we build a highway that serves so few people? It

I am hoping the segments to 290 from the east are approved soon. We need it for the traffic in the area of Gosling and the new village, as well as Kuykendahl. Right now, traffic heading for Houston has to be diverted to The Woodlands and shipped over to I45 or taken south on Kuykendahl or Gosling. Those two routes are not generally very fast. We are getting too much traffic for the Woodlands Parkway and the new village has only begun! Area continues to boom.

I really hate eminent domain, but the GP on the north side would be so huge.

It is beginning to look like federal funds will stimulate this project!!! All the objections will probably fall through a crack in the scheme of things now. I see a bulldozer literally running over everything now. 2015 is not very far out but it looks like that goal could be met with the influx of this money. They have to get on the stick for the second segment to I-45 however.

neohouston.com via the Houston Press reported the Sierra Club may hold up construction b/c they filed a lawsuit.

Does the Sierra Club have standing in court?

I would be surprised if they can affect the outcome of this. I know there are some seemingly desperate people trying to get in the way, even to the point of perhaps putting their bodies in harm way when construction begins. Sound like the 60's?
