TheNiche
Jan. 25, 2007, 1:15PMShelter-in-place lifted in La Porte after releaseCopyright 2007 Houston Chronicle The shelter-in-place ordered in La Porte after a poblem at the DuPont plant has been lifted, according to an emergency official. The plant apparently released oleum, which is disulfuric acid.Officials said the plume cloud was traveling toward Pasadena. Route 225 has been shut down between 146 and Sims Road. Mists or vapors of oleum, a mixture of sulfuric acid and sulfur trioxide used in making fibers, can cause irritation of the nose and throat, including sneezing, runny nose and sore throat, according to the chemical's Material Safety Data Sheet. This poblem caught my eye because my parents are looking at a move up to the Houston area and want inexpensive housing near Galveston Bay...and La Porte was near the top of their list. Original Timmy Chan's
Not really. Much more amused by the poblem. It's not nice to make fun of the Chronicle's speech impediment.
MidtownCoog
Anyone downtown this morning was treated to the Ship Channel's funk. It floated down 1-10 and out towards the north west. You could see it and smell it. The inversion layer was about 40 stories up but you could smell it at street level. Some days you can even smell it in the high rises.
Subdude
...there is a socially optimal number of cancerous children and other pollution-related sickies. So what's the problem with them moving to La Porte? Don't they realize there is a "socially optimal number of pollution-related sickies"?
TheNiche
So what's the problem with them moving to La Porte? Don't they realize there is a "socially optimal number of pollution-related sickies"?Absolutely nothing. I would've moved to Morgan's Point last year, myself, but my offer on a home was turned down.
